Jecki Lon Memorial Star Wars Thread

I don’t agree with that. The fault always lies with whomever has final say and signs off on the project.

That's true most of the time, but when you're dealing with an existing story, you have to consider lore. Luke couldn't be like "Hey I went to this nearly impossible to find island, not telling my sister and deactivated my droid so you could come here and I'd jump right onto the Falcon and go battle Snoke and Ren." SUre there were other ways Johnson could have told the story, he could have had the first order somehow find out about Ahch-To and sent Ren there with the Knights of Ren, but that ruins the MacGuffin from the first film. JJ put Luke on that Island. JJ spent a whole movie asking questions without answering them. And Disney as a whole deserves the blame because theydidn't have a single story running through it. We know that Rian Johnson didn't know what happened in TFA until it happened. And same with JJ and TLJ.

TLJ stands out because it's a great film though. It's well directed and deals with the hand it was dealt well. It takes a story of hurt and loss and focuses it. It sets up Rey to be a new kind of hope.

Personally if I was JJ I wouldn't have told TFA like I did, I would have killed Luke and Han in TFA leaving Leia and Chewie as your sheppards. But give LUke an Obi Wan type of death in TFA. It would have been better and you wouldn't have, again, a little droid MacGuffin. and you could have Luke go out and become a force ghost master like Yoda and Obi Wan.

Rosario Dawson to be playing Ahsoka Tano on Mandalorian season 2. Will be interesting to see how it goes. My guess is this leads to an Ahsoka (and hopefully Sabine) show.

Also with Gina Carano and Rosario Dawson there's gonna be some spankbank worthy material.

But does she go Ass to mouth?

I'm bored. So I wanted to do a minor amount of research.

Metacritic scores Critics vs. Users
Episode 1 - 51/6.1
Episode 2 - 54/6.1
Episode 3 - 68/7.7
Episode 4 - 90/8.8
Episode 5 - 82/9.1
Episode 6 - 58/8.3
Episode 7 - 80/6.8
Episode 8 - 85/4.3
Episode 9 - 53/4.8
Clone Wars Movie - 35/5.7
Rogue ONe - 65/7.6
Solo - 62/6.1

It shows a few things. First off how stupid a healthy chunk of fandom is moronic. There's no way in any shape way or form are Episode 8 or 9 worse than Solo or Clone Wars. If you think that you're dumb. And I hated Episode 9. But it was still better than Solo which was a hot mess or Clone Wars which lead to an amazing show but was a terrible movie.

IT also falls into a category where some movies critic scores were ruining films. ESB was torpedoed by a few critics and it ruined the aggregate.

Nah, I'm with the kroger wrestler. 3 is the best of the prequels, but it is still bad. 7 and 8 both have good things going for them, but each makes the other a worse movie in context. Rogue One is just a straightforward good movie.

Rogue One is better than the prequels, 8 and 9.

I enjoyed 7, 8 was horrible, and 9 was similar to 3 for me.

Still getting 9 in the steel case that best buys sells. I passed on the Solo version.

You saying 8 was horrible just invalidates anything else you say. Just saying.

I don't think 8 does anything against 7. I think it does things that JJ may not have hinted at, mainly because we kind of know what he wants from the ****show that was Episode 9. Episode 8 took the direction fo the story from 7 and tried to build on the characters JJ spent no time developing instead just telling a best hits of Han and Leia. 8 I tihnk was a great leap forward, for 9 to take 2 steps back. if you read all the other media around 8 was right there.

But anyway, everyone can have their opinion, no matter how wrong they are.

Rogue one's problem for me is it's pacing. It could go breakneck and frentic jumping from planet to planet then plod along. I do think the opening to it in current times when Cassian kills the informant shows a gritty side of the rebellion we only saw in books, comics, and tv shows.

I mean, 7 was a bad movie. The only interesting parts was the questions it posed about Rey's lineage and what the heck was going on with Snoke. 8 immediately threw those questions in the garbage and did it's own thing, for better or worse. That makes 7 have very little going for it.

8 was also clearly hurt by having to react to what Abrams left on the board.

Yeah for me its:

Revenge of the Sith
Rogue One
A New Hope
Empire Strikes Back
Rise of Skywalker
Return of the Jedi
Phantom Menace
The Last Jedi
Attack of the Clones
Force Awakens aka The Greatest Hits of Star Wars
Solo

Revenge of the Sith has so much rewatchability to it, just because of the prequel meme dialogue, the lightsaber duels, and great work by McDiarmid, McGregor, Samuel J, etc.

I mean it didn't really pose any questions about Snoke. The questions posed about Snoke were what wasn't known about him. And it's why I hate 9 so much. All we had to know about Snoke in the context of a story about Rey and Ren is that he was Ren's master. We didn't know jack squat about Palpatine in the OT. He was only referred to as the Emperor. He was later expanded upon. I think what TFA did well was start to set up a new trilogy but getting the important characters front and center. Killing off Han Solo was necessary and aside from it being a "waste" of having him in the film I wish it happened earlier. I wish they killed off Han earlier on.

ANyway the issue with 7 was the writing painted Johnson in a bit of a corner as it asked a lot of questions, and important questions, that he had to resolve. ANd he did, unlike JJ he resolved his questions. You leave ep 8 with a clear picture of the state of the story and universe. That doesn't happen in 7.

Honestly, I think you can put episode 8 as basically a stand alone film and it's fine. That's why it's special. You could watch the OT and 8 and not really feel left out. It hits all the important beats, Kylo killed Han, his father, and is Leia's son. Rey is a nobody who's destiny is connected to Kylo Ren, all these things are in the movie.

I mean I can understand people who are disappointed in the sequel trilogy and for me that falls on 9. If 9 wasn't a ****show attempt at Endgame, then the sequel trilogy would have been much better off. The plot holes in episode 9 are ****ing miserable.
