Degrom age on opening day and average FB velocity the last 4 years:
2016- 27 - 94.2
2017- 28 - 95.8
2018- 29 - 96.7
2019- 30 - 97.2
Over the last 4 years his velocity increased every season with a total increase of 3 MPH. That's a MASSIVE increase and something that's truly crazy for ages 27-30.
For context, Felix Hernandez saw his velocity decline from 93.6 to 91.1 over the same ages.
Strasburg is almost the same age and also a power pitcher. His velocity over those years went from 95.9 to 94.3 MPH.
So what's the deal with Degrom? How does he end up throwing harder every year?
