The Coronavirus, not the beer

Misrepresenting posters is poor form, and shows the weakness of your trollness.

I never cheered any violence against anyone. I believe I did say something about rioting being understandable and predictable. Claiming that I was cheering for it is dishonest and an outright lie.

You are still,as you have been for years, a bad faith poster who should be ignored by everyone.

You said they had it coming.

Several posters called you on it

excess deaths about 40% higher than covid-19 death count...and the differential varies enormously by state...some states have virtually no differential and others (hello South Carolina) appear to be only accounting for about half the excess deaths

Even at this late data it bears repeating some basic facts about the Nordic Saga

Deaths per million

Sweden 575
Denmark 109
FINLAND 61
Norway 50

Why do we compare these countries? Cuz it is an apples to apples comparison. They have similar demographics. Small households. Similar economics. Similar on healthcare standards. Experienced roughly similar initial outbreaks in terms of timing and intensity. Similar population density.

We can compare Sweden and Italy. But such a comparison only makes sense when controlling for variables such as timing and intensity of initial attacks, demographics, population density, etc. Sweden has a lot of advantages over Italy when looking at those variables. Yet deaths per million is pretty similar. 575 in Sweden. 590 in Italy. We think of Italy as having had a horrendous experience. Yet deaths per capita in Sweden are almost the same in spite of many inherent advantages.

Of course, Los Estados Unidas has blown by both Sweden and Italy in terms of deaths per capita, and deaths here are still rising at a pretty good clip, but that's another story.

How is comparing the YoY excess mortality for Sweden not the most appropriate apples to apples comp?

588 vs 528 (with the 2020 number likely to get revised up given the data are incomplete)

60

or 600 per million.

That's NOT a good number. Much higher than other Scandinavian countries.

However, OURS is indeed worse.

259,000 excess deaths out of a population of 327 million.

Comes out to 792 per million. And still rising at a good clip. Simply horrific.

We're going to end this year with over 400,000 excess deaths.

If covid-19 follows the usual seasonal pattern of other coronoviruses and flu viruses, we're going to be well over 600,000 excess deaths by March of next year.

Not the flu.

The 6 year average is 570... that number went up to 588 the year of global pandemic that has killed hundreds of thousands... that is a 3% increase over the 6 year average... and not the worst year of the 6 years, which was 2015.

This is the country who embraced science.

I don't understand why the party of science is running from it. Actually... of course I understand why

You do not have to convince me that the US ****ed this up...

Well, some of it at least.

We know which states have been hit the hardest. The ones who locked the most, the ones who took away the most freedom... lead the way in death and joblessness.

Meanwhile... if compare 2020 in Sweden with other similar bad flue years...

I hope the leftist states who are killing their citizens begin to embrace the science.

what do the blue data show? deaths from flu or deaths from all causes?

48,206 cases today. Highest since August 21.

We squandered valuable time during the second quarter when we could have gotten into better shape for schools to re-open.

And now we are squandering an opportunity to take care of business before flu season hits.

No one has handled this perfectly. It is a tough problem. But we have been a special kind of incompetent.
