The GOP's great depression

Driving the news: Some top GOP operatives, privy to data from swing states, tell me that this week's chaotic presidential debate had a calamitous effect on Republican chances in tight Senate races.

"The bottom is falling out everywhere," said a longtime Republican insider.

This insider said the debate didn't faze hardcore Trumpers. But he said it turned off "open to Trump" swing voters, especially women in suburbs.

"Everyone knew Trump was capable of this kind of behavior," the insider said. "But these voters had never had 90 straight minutes of that behavior thrust in their faces."

An outside presidential adviser cautioned that Senate races "really turn on different voter impulses" than the presidential race.

The most conservative leaning major pollster and Trumps favorite has Biden with a double digit lead nationally. About 1% of votes already cast. The end is near.

and let's hope ...

Important to distinguish between 1932 and 1964.

1964 contained the seeds for a quick rebirth of the GOP, as problematic as that has turned out to be.

1932 reverberated in a different way for a generation.

I think 2020 might be more far-reaching than 1932 because no sane person will want to be part of a coalition with the trumpist core that will emerge from the ashes as the dominant element of the GOP.

It started with lies about crowd size.

That’s the reality we’ve been living ever since.

Thats not what matters imo. The Demographics are shifting and the question now is how long until Democrats advantage in the popular vote overtakes the ability of Republicans ability to win through the electoral college. Republicans have won the popular vote 1 time since the 1980's. The next time a Republican gets 65 million votes will be the first time and it surely wont be in 2020. 65 million votes is pretty much the floor for a Democrat. The last one to not hit atleast 65 million was John Kerry and it will only get easier to hit that number as the overall population grows. My estimate for this election is Trump somewhere between 58-60 million and 68-70 million for Biden.

Basically, it is up to the Dems what they do with their current opportunity. They can govern in a semi-competent fashion and remain in power for a generation. Or they can blow it.

The No-Mask Party's candidate and campaign manager both infected coming into the home stretch.

It will be interesting to see if the MAGA hats start wearing masks.

Did you see the crowd of supporters in Staten Island? Very few masks. As if nothing happened. It is a strange strange ideology.

Biden or Trump has no authority to do this... but that won't stop a (D) from a massive power grab
