GDT: NLCS Game 3 Braves vs Dodgers

Shutting them down after the 3rd inning gives back a bit of confidence I think. Wilson needs to have the best 3-5 innings of his life, though.

So despite the final score I think there’s a lot of positives to take away from the game tonight.

First and foremost nobody got injured. A close second is despite Wright and Dayton getting obliterated we only used 5 pitchers tonight none of who were used in the previous 2 games.

An important third positive is TDA got most of the game off. I’d still like Flowers to start behind the plate tomorrow as well with TDA at DH but he should be able to go the rest of the series if that’s the route we choose to go.

Also good to see that Camargo and Pache both handled themselves well tonight at the plate and in the field. Culberson having 2 hits was good to see as well.

Finally the last positive is that despite everything we’re still up 2-1 and this was not a game we had to have. As I’ve been saying our path to victory is to win all of Fried’s starts (1 down 1 to go), win one of Anderson’s starts (check) and find a way to win one of the 4 other games (0-1 with 3 games remaining).

Glad I skipped this game. Melvin doesn't have the intestinal fortitude for this. I hear he is a nice guy. He needs to go sell insurance or whatever. He is flat out not good at the base balls. How many years are we going to do this with Melvin? His whole career his value has gone straight down yet we are going to end up DFAing him rather than trading him like 3 years ago when some idiots around baseball thought he was worth being drafted.

Speaking of tomorrow... I wonder what lineup we go with? I'd probably go...

Acuna RF
Free 1B
Ozuna DH
TdA C
Ozzie 2B
Dansby SS
Camargo 3B
Riley LF
Pache CF

Although, with the way Ozzie is swinging against righties... I'd be tempted to bump him up to the 2 spot. Wonder if Snit would go for that.

Also, he'll probably throw Neck out there.

I like the batting order, but just curious if we would gain anything by having Camargo in left and Riley at 3rd base. I don't know what their defensive stats say. I am guessing Camargo would be better that Riley at both positions. Just a thought?

Reflections: Wright may or may not ever recover. Ive never seen a MLB player display the emotions he did from the mound and the dugout. The Betts call was overturned correctly but umps missed 2 others very badly. Dodgers got 5 out in the first inning and 6 if replay was not in the game now. Hope Wilson brings that bulldog mentality to the game tonite.

Wright will be fine. He got beat by a very good team that happened to get a few breaks to go with that talent.

Meh, I'm not too worried. It's terrifying but another postseason opportunity would be huge for him.

I was worried a lot more about Wright before his postgame interview. He seemed like he was good to go. Hopefully it wasn't all posturing.

Honest question...

Other than pedigree, why hasn't Ynoa been given more starts when guys like Newk, Wright and Wilson seem like they have infinite chances?

His stuff is pretty damn good and he goes up there looking to attack.

He came up later than the others and has mostly been ineffective in his several opportunities. He's likely to continue to get opportunities if there is an opening and he performs ok.

I turned the game off somewhere in the world's longest third of an inning.

I wasn't surprised Wright got lit up, but I am pleasantly surprised at how well the bullpen came out of it.

I had favored Ynoa over Wilson, so it concerns me a little that maybe the Braves chose unwisely, but on the other hand pitching from 14 runs behind isn't really a true trial. Just have to hope Wilson keeps it in the zone and gets some BABIP luck.

The dodgers likely did a ton of work on how we were pitching them and made adjustments. We probably adjusted back. Wright could have been tipping pitches. You just don't see things go that badly that often.

We are still up 2-1.

Plus, the last time we gave up 10+ runs in the first inning of a playoff game, we went on a 7 game winning streak

Maybe this will be a series where the Dodgers grossly outscore us but don't advance.

Regardless of the final score the Braves can't be upset about the position they are in. They still need to win Fried's next game and 1 more.

Have the Braves picked a game 5 starter yet? I'm curious if they will go with Fried and Anderson on short rest or 'punt' it to give them full rest.
