Braves sign Charlie Morton

Wow! The payroll isn’t going down in the Atl! Get us a big bat, bullpen arm, and a couple of bench guys and we are right there with the Dodgers! That rotation is gonna be freakin nasty

Great deal IMO. If we can just get a bat then we should be pretty good. Not sure if these two deals mean we are using our money on SP instead of Ozuna, or if our payroll is going up

Well, I think they've had a wonderful offseason with the rotation.

Much like last season Anthopolous is overcorrecting the biggest problem from the previous season.

You could theoretically move into next season with what you have in the lineup, but I have to think they have some money to play with there as well. Or trade targets or something. If they did nothing in the lineup, I'd guess they are still a playoff contender.

The Braves put themselves in a really good financial position for this offseason. They could just maintain last season's payroll and have plenty of room to make more additions.

We've been assuming some kind of austerity though, which would make that feel like payroll going up.

Agreed. If they spend another 15 on a position player then we may have underestimated the financial position of the team or how aggressively they budgeted their 3-5 year projected revenues.

I really like it.

I have to HOPE that are actually going to have a payroll similar to last year. IMO we still need two bats to be a legit WS team.

WE know know the Mets are going to be much better next year when they spend. They may regret it in 2025 plus, but they'll be better next year.

Fried
Morton
Smyly
Anderson
Soroka

Do Wilson and Wright have options still?

Do we know if we have expanded rosters next year? They won't do a real 6 man rotation, but maybe they plan to spot start Wright a lot since we have Soroka coming back from an injury, Anderson in his first full year, Fried who seems to need some breaks and two older vets.

Still wondering if AA can turn Touki, Wilson, and/or Davidson into anything. I know some will say they don't have value. But if we do have teams that are desperate to cut money and starting pitching is this expensive, cheap starters with some pedigree (Touki and Wilson) might be valuable. Stealth tank.

Soroka, Anderson, Morton and Drew S. are all somewhat risky in their ways. With those two one year contracts, you'll need something for next season as well.

So I think Wright, and Wilson probably remain somewhat important until you get some evidence that the next group is getting close to ready.

Touki, Weigel, Davidson, Muller are guys that you might consider moving. Though I think Touki could be really good in the pen. And I think someone can still fix him in the rotation.

I ask this question before but no one answer Smyly used to play bullpen? Maybe Alex is looking as a long reliever?

Do we know how much extra revenue they received from the postseason run? That certainly could’ve helped some

True.
But they have Muller. They also drafted 4 college pitchers in the last draft, right?

It may have helped but it will all be based on future projections. Many believe Atlanta will be the next great world city and population is exploding in the Cobb county area with great gains expected the next 20 years.
There will be lots of butts in the seats once COVID is behind us
