I'm not a big Matt Gaetz fan, but he's right on this issue. Poll after poll shows 60+ percent of Americans believe marijuana should be legalized and it is pathetic that you can still get in more trouble for using weed than cocaine. As more and more research comes out, it is clear that the government has been lying to us for decades about marijuana.
For something that isn't addictive I sure have seen a lot of people ruin their lives over it. I'd much rather see the Justice Dept return to enforcing the law.
seems to me with the right tweak Mitch might be willing to co-sponsor this

How do you get in more trouble for marijuana than cocaine?
Cocaine is a schedule 2 drug on the Controlled Substances Act and Marijuana is a schedule 1 drug
Mitch blocked Obama from passing criminal justice reform at the end of his presidency, so he could give that easy layup to Trump.
This would be an even easier lay-up for Don because it's almost a slam dunk at this point in public opinion.
Not sure about federal laws; but in Mississippi less than 1 oz of weed is a misdemeanor, and any amount of cocaine is a felony.

Simple possession of Marijuana is a slap on the wrist everywhere if you arent a prick to the cops.
Obvious troll is obvious. Prohibition has ruined far more lives than the actual marijuana. Not just the users. Cops who get hurt in the enforcement of it. When you put the cops in the position of violently enforcing unpopular laws you get the wedge between them and the public that results in the types of rioting you saw this year. Where cops get hurt as well. Marijuana also can be very helpful for PTSD so it would actually help cops who get PTSD from their job. Veterans who get PTSD often end up treating it with marijuana and then get trapped in the meat grinder of a justice system that ends with suicide and homelessness. I would think as a supposed conservative who say they are against big government and job killing regulation you would support this.
