Looking Ahead - The 2020 Offseason Thread

Moran and Frazier are roughly equal offensively.

I'd rather have the positive defender in LF over the negative defender at 3B who would force Riley to LF.

I'm not sure there is a scenario other than bench bat where Frazier being acquired really does much for me.

Unless I've looking at the wrong numbers, we basically just have one half season of strong splits vs RHP. So him holding down the strong side of a LF platoon doesn't really do much to solve the hitting needs.

Am I missing it?

If you are adding big bats at 3B and DH and he's hitting eighth or pinch hitting that's pretty good though.

La Stella's deal is 3 years/~$19 million?

No *amn wonder AA signed Adrianza - giving a utility guy multiple years for over $5 million in this market is nuts!!!

The idea is he fills the Markakis role for similar money. That role being bottom half of the order hitter vs RHP who doesn’t require a late game defensive replacement. Pederson may be too expensive to fill that role after the Ozuna replacement is paid, and Rosario may be too poor defensively to play 9 innings in the field.

An OF/DH mix of Acuna, Ozuna, Pache, Duvall, Frazier and Ender would be pretty strong if deployed properly.

Heyman: Mets’ offer to Bauer thought 3-4 years with opt-outs and less than $36M AAV record. Dodgers could have similar type interest but unlikely to go long. Some teams believe Bauer seeks much longer deal, and pitching comps they’ve used are long deals: Cole (324M) and Strasburg (245M).

Heyman cont: Bauer derby could shape up as Mets vs. Dodgers unless mystery teams emerge (always possible). Padres showed interest before their 3 pitching deals but also floated 3/4 year deal, which didn’t fly.
@martinonyc
had 1st Mets offer estimates

This just really shows there is no market for Bauer, no teams are willing to pay what he's looking for. We had heard the Angels, what happened to them? I don't any teams with the budget who going to be able to pay Bauer what he's looking for. Almost looks like he will end up on the Mets by default.

It's us isn't it? We gonna pitch it so good that camargo and Riley are plenty lol

Giving 4 years to someone that has only produced 1.5 seasons of impact hitting? That's my guess.

i guess i was thinking of a 3-year deal but that wasn't mentioned at all in what i said.
he's a good hitter tho. just probably not a great one consistently.

#STLCards are talking to the Rockies about a possible Nolan Arenado trade. No word anything’s close yet, per Heyman, Rosenthal, Patrick Saunders (Denver Post)

Saunders mentioned the talks aren’t as close as is being reported and that Braves are also interested.

I'm sure it's been discussed before, but what exactly is fair value for Arenado? Does he have any surplus value at all and how much would have to be kicked in to make it work?

I guess it all depends on whether or not you think he's likely to opt out of 5/164. If he's a 4-5 win player or better, he absolutely opts out. If he has a sub 4 WAR season or misses any significant time due to injury, he's most assuredly going to opt in. Fairly big risk there.
