Looking Ahead - The 2020 Offseason Thread

Maybe. But the dumb teams are becoming fewer and fewer. The angels already signed Rendon so they can’t double down on stupid. I personally wouldn’t take that chance.

I mean the Jays just gave Springer (an older and inferior player to Arenado) 6/150 while we're still in the midst of a pandemic. So there's always money to be spent.

There's a decent chance Arenado opts out if he has another 5-6 WAR type of season in 2021. That would put him at age 30 with a remaining contract of 6/179. Consider that Rendon got 7/245 after his age 29 season, and I think it's safe to assume Arenado would be looking at a $200 million contract as well.

The Cards are clearly banking on exactly that considering the bulk of the cash the Rox sent over came this year. They are hoping on getting a free 5 win year out of him and then having him skip town.

If that doesn’t happen they will be stuck paying 2 corner IFers huge salaries through their decline years.

There is nothing I would like more than for that very thing to happen. Even better would be to see them eat a ton of money to move them and then have those guys go on to successful careers somewhere else. Sort of a double whammy.

Dan Clark: #Braves talks with the Indians about Jose Ramirez have cooled off somewhat recently. As anticipated, the asking price is too high at this point. A source close to Alex Anthopoulos says they will keep trying, but will also explore other options to further bolster the lineup.

Well they damn sure better be.

Just sign Ozuna already. Worse case scenario we deal with his defense for one season and then move him over to dh. Best case scenario Manfred and the player’s association stop acting like dickheads and we get the dh this season, and then fill our left fielder internally or sign someone else.

Why not Suarez? He would/should be substantially cheaper in prospect cost. Hell, give me Suarez and Winker.

Haven’t paid attention but have the Reds shown any signs of not competing again. The central is weak. I know Bauer is not there (maybe). But have they done anything to indicate they are not trying to win.

I think Suarez makes more sense.

They have Senzel to replace him, who is playing out of position in CF.

Suarez is not as good and owed more money, so price should be much lower.

Waters could be a future CF for Reds.

The reds are not great. The reds also have OFs if you want to make a big trade.

Just the thought of us getting Ramirez is beyond exciting. Adding an MVP caliber bat to the lineup would be amazing. With him making 9.4 million and just 12 and 14 the 2 years after then we could afford Ozuna to probably. That would be an insane lineup.

Hector Gomez: According to @piodeportes Marcell Ozuna is seeking at least 4-year contract and $22-25 millions per season.

#Rays, #Braves and #Twins emerge as the frontrunners to sign the slugger.

I have no idea who this guy is, but I’m desperate to believe anything right now. Twins still seem likely to get Cruz, so us vs the Rays? Really hope we can get that cost down though.

They traded away they're all star closer and they've been reportedly shopping Gray. Combine that losing Bauer.

No way AA comes close to that contract. Duvall and a lefty platoon partner it is.

Suarez has been my preferred target for a month or so now. will still cost a lot, but not JoRam level.

Why would the Reds trade Suarez? They just signed Doolittle, they're not dumping guys to rebuild, they're trying to compete. Forget that trade idea.

Is anyone else attached to Cruz? If not, then it’s Minnesota, Atlanta, Tampa for Cruz and Ozuna?

Have to hope Cruz signs with Minnesota and then Ozuna ends up with us or Tampa. Have to like our odds then.

Ozuna wanting 22-25M per and 4 years. Has it been so long ago that AA refused to meet that price for Donaldson along with his glove?
