GDT 5/21/21: Pirates (Anderson) @ Braves (Anderson) - 7:20 PM EST

Something really has to be done about allowing position players to pitch. It's really embarrassing for all involved.

Exactly, it puts everyone in a ****ty situation. I don’t think it’s fair to ask guys to tank ABs...just seems like the opposite of what the game is about. Yet it feels bad to pile runs on a guy throwing 85 meatballs.

In soccer, the mentality is more oriented towards respecting your opponent by continuing to compete even if you’re blowing them out. Maybe you pull a couple of your best players and dial back your aggression, but you still take your chances when you get them, because not doing so is considered to be more disrespectful. I think that’s the best approach, honestly. Don’t egregiously show them up, but don’t quit trying.

I fully agree with Julio on this - just keep putting stats on the back of your bubble gum card. No stealing bases or anything -unless you are Ricky Henderson trying to get to 100 and everyone knows it - I digress- but point is tomorrow your gonna face Tom Seaver or someone ...so work on your game and respect the opponent and hang 30

It's crazy that we still lead the NLE in runs by a lot and haven't really been hitting well. If we can only pitch average the bats should keeps us in the hunt to October.

Why did twit stop Acuna from hitting LH. What was his gripe. Acuna wouldn’t get hurt. He wasn’t showing up a position player pitching. The pirates shouldn’t care that our best hitter made himself handicapped in a blowout. Let the moment happen for the fun of the game.

That at bat you could tell Acuna really didn't even try

? Acuna batting LH would certainly be showing up the other team. I'm not all that anal retentive about the unwritten rules, but Acuna batting LH would have just been stupid. It goes back to my original gripe. Something needs to be done about position players pitching in blowouts.

I think if you pitch a position player, you lose your right to have the other team's manager lose his locker room by getting mad at disrespecting the game on your behalf

Agree. The position players pitching is at the heart of the issue. A manager using a position player as a pitcher isn't respecting the game, so any honoring of the unwritten rules goes out the window.

Agreed. Respecting the game went out the window the moment Difo was tossing 80 mph meatballs and chuckling about the results.

Just let the other team concede at that point.
