I know this isn't a travel forum, but you guys seem to be well versed in travel. My wife and I are visiting DC for the first time in October. What do we need to see? Where do we eat? We're going to see the saints play the WFT, and other than the top tourist attractions, that's all we got planned.

Best meal I've had in DC was at a place called Jaleo's. Everything was fantastic. Filomena Ristorante is another really good one if you like Italian.

If it's your first time I'd recommend doing the major attractions. A walking tour of the major memorials is a good experience. National Archives, various Smithsonian museums (US History, Air and Space, Natural History are the big ones).

One thing I always really enjoy and that isn't super crowded is the National Gallery of Art. The collection there is fantastic and like all the government owned museums, it's free.

It's been a hot minute since I've been to DC, but there's tons of cool stuff to do there. Museums are all top notch from my memory, of course national mall and memorial park is cool,

I have nothing for food because my memory is terrible. I don't remember disliking anything. I just cannot remember any places and to be fair, with COVID many places may be shutdown.

I've eaten at Jaleo in Las Vegas. If the DC version is close, that's a good call.

Georgetown is a fun neighborhood to walk around. Very shi-shi la-la.

I also like hanging out at Adams Morgan. It is a great spot for cheap food from "emerging" cuisines. Central American, Caribbean, African (especially Ethiopian).

Oh and even though they suck these days and even if soccer aint your thang, the atmosphere at a DC United game can be pretty special. Nice new stadium.

I dont care about the race.

But the tents are a little disorienting.

Oh and the double masked shields are always good for a laugh

Used to live up near Capitol Hill on Tennessee Ave. Definitely miss the DC food scene- never lived anywhere that has so much good ethnic food of basically any variety. The worst Thai place in DC is better than the best Thai place where I am now in Denver. A few of my favorite spots were Ambar (Balkan food, which I had never had before- took my fiancee on our first date there), Zaytinya (Jose Andres eastern Mediterranean place), Rose's Luxury, and Maketto. Used to love Baked and Wired for baked goods and Glen's Garden Market for lunch (office was over near Dupont).

Re: Museums, which I agree are the way to go in DC, I don't think you have to steer too far from consensus. Natural History and Air and Space are probably my favorites. Holocaust Memorial is a great visit, albeit a bit of a downer. Haven't been to the AA History museum but hear it's great. I think the National Archives are generally underrated. Basically anywhere you go on the mall is going to be full of some awesome piece of Americana and you'll enjoy it.

if first time in my home city

stick to those tourist spots (what are your spots for that statement?) you should check out and don't deviate too far from it by adding other spots if on a limited time schedule (how long you gonna be there?)

enjoy

hopefully the hater of joy will be moved to texas by then and will have even gotten better than it is

Thanks for suggestions. I'll be there for 5 days. Smithsonian, natural history museum, monuments, White House, capitol, Georgetown, Arlington cemetery, and my wife probably said more, but I forgot.

Lol yes. Bc the person who adamantly opposed the government locking people in their homes for a year is the hater of joy.

You are so adorable, little one
