Everyone's cases are upticking in the West right now. It's not really fair to compare to last year. Portugal is in school so you can't fully use that against them. Seasonality is a huge concern. But it doesn't explain why places like Georgia are spiking while Portugal is going down.

It's probably best that we finally admit that nobody has the answers... the virus is gonna do it's thing... mitigation factors don't work. Only way out of it is everyone getting their immunity from it

I know some of y'all have been concerned about certain states blowing up. So I wanted to offer some reassuring data.
Hawaii cases down 34% in the past week
New York down 11%
New Jersey down 4%
Massachusetts down 11%
Connecticut unchanged
New Hampshire down 10%
Rhode Island down 8%
Vermont up 2%
Maine down 4%
Oregon down 17%
Washington down 9%
California down 18%
Of course winter is coming. We will have to see how that goes.
But it is nice to see cases coming down in those states. From already very low levels in most instances.
As some posters have noted, cases go up and down with seemingly no rhyme or reason. What's great about highly vaccinated states is that when things like hospitalizations go up (and it does fluctuate up and down) the highs are very low. Very low compared to last year. Very low compared to lightly vaccinated states.
Guess I wasn't considered breakthrough since I only had 1st shot, but mine was very mild. I ran fever for about 2 hours, and I had an extremely sore throat for 4 days. Hopefully yours is just as mild
