Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

If we only have 15 million to spend we are in trouble IMO. We can't have an OF of Olivera, Duvall, 10-15 million guy and/or a rotation of Fried, Morton, Anderson and a bunch of dudes. With the expanded playoffs maybe you get in and make a deadline deal.

If we only have 15 million I'd have to hope we make another trade.

Ozuna.

Braves roster as is is projected to win the NL East per Fangraphs. With expanded playoffs, we would have to have a lot go wrong to not make the playoffs.

Braves will for sure add another starting caliber OF to the team. I think ideally they would bring in a veteran SP but I could also see them holding off until the summer.

So just curious, is there any chance Dansby gets extended, if not which way do we pivot next season?

I don't see it. He's too streaky and injured. And I don't see us paying top dollar. He'll be the only decent guy on the market unless Bogaerts opts out.

Right now I'd say Shewmake and bat him 9th. If that's your option you'd have to have a plan to get legit production from CF and LF.

I can’t stop laughing. The Braves called Freeman’s bluff, then just said “**** you” and pissed on the grave of the face of their franchise

That’s some cutthroat ****. I really hope Freddie gets that 6th year from someone.

Who are the 6 NL teams better than the Braves right now even before the obvious OF addition we are going to make?

meh.. I don't think it has anything to do with the fact it was FF.. I think agents have been getting bolder and bolder with holding out for the best deal as more and more guys get signed around them.. the Borass model I guess you could call it. In this case it will still work out for FF and he will get paid.. but I bet a dollar that his agent said we can play chicken with the Braves and see if we can get them to commit to the 6th year. worse comes to worse, I (the agent) would be prevy of the Braves going another route and we can come back to the negotiating table... problem, AA leaks nothing and decided he couldn't wait on the the game anymore and got Olson. I have a feeling there is egg dripping down someone's face at FF's agents office.

Agreed I'd like to lock up Riley. Just can't imagine us losing all that club leadership of Freddie and Dansby in B2B years. Looking at who is available next season at SS isn't pretty.

Maybe it's Acria. They do love him so. He's under contract for 1.3 in 2023 with a 2 million option in 2024. Might need that if we extend Riley.

agreed.

Freddie had the whole lockout to play these games.

although I wonder, teams and players aren’t allowed to negotiate during lockout.

can executives still communicate? Very possible AA and Beane were discussing this scenario through the lockout as colleagues. Doesn’t require player communication.

Dansby, unless he has a breakout year, is going to be affordable. If the Braves don’t sign him, they’ll have to bring in someone similar to Dansby because they won’t have the resources to shop at the high end of that market and they don’t have the an internal replacement.

My hunch is that an extension is announced this year.

Who knows, now that Coach Freddie is gone, Dansby can actually get off days and rest during September.

AA: "Snit can you rest Ozzie and Dansby, they look gassed and scuffling."
Snit: "Wait I can do that?"

100%

Dansby more so than any other player on the team seems like he would benefit most to scheduled days off. I pray it happens this year.

Said earlier. I have no idea why athletic signed DOB or Schultz as their Braves writers.

They weren't must read for the AJC. Seems they just wanted them for name value.

Schultz takes the last 24 hours of this trade and extension are even worse.

Either them or Shanks. They are probably being paid more from the subscriptions to Athletic than the newspaper.

Surely we have more than 15m to play with? Weren't we prepared to pay a nice chunk to a SP in addition to trying to get Freddie for around the same as we just gave Olson?

Perhaps AA wants to leave more money available midseason. It allowed us flexibility to get Joc, Soler, Duvall, and Rosario.
