57 million of Freddie’s contract is deferred.
Seriously, **** off Freddie. Not coming back to Atlanta is on you. He took less money to go to LA.
This is almost exactly how I envisioned the situation played out.
I can't fault Freeman for trying to maximize his earnings. He's certainly earned it, probably more so than any other current Brave. Being a Brave simply wasn't as important as squeezing that last $20M out of someone (far less after taxes), and it's perfectly acceptable to push for it. I have no problem with any player looking out for themselves in a business where their employers certainly aren't.
What I do have a problem with is this act about always wanting to be a Brave. His actions (and contract) speak much more loudly than anything he says in an interview. He is a Dodger because he wanted to be super rich rather than being...super rich. So own it, and stop playing the "I'm sad" card.
This.

Great interview with Chipper. Listening to that, I don't think Freeman had any intention of leaving. I think he thought the Braves would fold and give him a 6th year. Chipper said Freddie was shocked when the Olson trade went down.

Out of all this. Can't believe it took AA less than an hour to get an Olson extension done.
“I’m pretty sure having worked with Alex from the last 4-5 years ever since he’s been here being part of the front office. Alex was not the problem. That’s, that’s what I’ll say and I’ll leave it at that.”
Strong words by Chipper.
Sounds like the extra inning ghost runner on second may very well return this year
50 million deferred lol. I don’t even feel bad for FF.
Yep, and add in the difference in state tax and it makes the deal look much worse financially than the deal ATL offered. It’s still generational wealth, but he left chips on the table.
