I hope Pina isn’t getting starts over Contreras.
Contreras is a interesting guy. I feel like I'm higher on his D than most of you and lower on his O than most of you.
The other thing that is interesting is that there are changes to the game that could impact his value. If we go robo umps, his defense becomes less valuable. If they make bigger bases and get rid of replay on steals then throwing out runners becomes more valuable.
If they allow for technology to call a game from the dugout, then maybe his calling becomes less valuable.
I think he has had some moments, but I don't think he's a butcher back there. I don't think he Pizza or Gattis. If he can flirt with a 800 ops and catch the ball, he could be a stud at C.
I can't imagine the braves trade SL if they don't think Contreras can catch. Likewise I can't imagine the Braves sign TDA and Pina if they think he's ready to be the primary Catcher. As I recall, TDA is only signed through this year and Pina has this year and next. TDA isn't getting big money but you have to think AA is going to hope Contreras can do that job at the minimum
After the extension, we're not really saving that much on Olson. And with the addition of the DH, benches are now just weaker in the NL. After the Pollock deal, the Dodgers' depth is no better than ours.

Disagree… the Dodgers have a much deeper bench and it’s not close. Pollock had a terrible contract and there was no room for him anymore.
Rios
Lux
Barnes
Pillar
Alberto
Those are all likely positive contribution players… most of our bench is neutral to negative

He doesn't have a horrible contract. He's making 13 million this year and 10 million next year.
He also posted a 135 WRC+ over the last two seasons. That bat will be missed in their lineup.
Sure he’s productive when healthy but that is exceedingly rare. Also $13 million for a bench bat (which he would be on the Dodgers) is pretty awful.
He does have health issues. And there is a great chance he would have been their 2nd best OFer. The player they should have moved on from is Bellinger. Dude is toast.
Bellinger is an interesting study. I wonder if he bounces back this year from that shoulder injury from 2020. Or if infact he is toast. Will be an interesting watch regardless.
Is Bellinger’s contract guaranteed yet, or can they dump him?
dodgers are really deep.
Turner is really good. Turner kills us.
But people are underestimating Seager leaving IMO. That was the guy that seemed to be really special in the playoffs for them and killed the Braves.
