MLB Network’s Bold (and crazy) Prediction: Angels trade Ohtani to Atlanta

Don’t see how this is even remotely possible, but hey I’ll take him if we don’t have to give up Harris.

Saw that, and no way it would happen, we just don't have the prospects.

Only oddball way would be if we are taking on a bad contract of theirs, which they have several. Doubt AA would do that, especially for what would essentially be a rental.

Harris, Anderson, and Grissom would be the start I’d guess and it’d take a 4th piece. I’d be fine with all of those but Harris. You’d be replacing Harris with a better hitter and Anderson with a better pitcher with 1 player. We’d have to get a defensive CF to replace Harris.

For serious though, we could take on Iglesias in return to help lessen the prospect haul. But I imagine they will want to a hefty haul if they trade him. I just don't see how we match up

He’s a FA after next season and the bidding will be insane. If anybody gets him they will need to try to resign him before he hits the market.

Have there even been any rumors that they might trade him? Seems crazy, but they are awful even with him and Trout. Would not be popular with the fans, but if they traded those guys they sure could stock up the farm system

They've had top 10 or top 15 picks every year and their farm is still trash. I wouldn't trust anyone in their scouting department to actually pick good players in return.

The Angels seem more like the type of org that would give Ohtani an absurd contract rather than trade him.

I guess it depends how legit you think Strider is. Strictly from a numbers perspective Ohtani likely has 40-45 million in surplus value. Adding in the contender's premium plus the added bonus of having room for an extra roster spot would push that higher. Strider as a 4 WAR pitcher would be more than double that. But nobody is going to value Strider as a 4 WAR guy based off 70 innings.

If I were the Angels I would be trying to have serious contract negotiations with Ohtani. If it's clear he's going to test FA then I think you have to move him at the deadline. His value would never be higher and they have to know they have no chance to contend next year.

Two things to remember/consider in any dealing with Angels: Minasian/AA history and perhaps PM has convinced Moreno that there are better ways to construct a winner than his ideas of high dollar stars.
