GDT: Gnats vs. Braves. 20 Sept 22 7:20pm

Buck panicking again and running to Diaz in the 8th with the trying run up…in the form of Fatty Telez…he will K on 3 pitches.

If there was ever a time for us to spend on a closer Diaz would be it this offseason.

We already have Iglesias, McHugh, Minter, Lee, Matzek, Yates locked in next year. The slight diffference in the division is the Mets have Diaz, and we have Jansen. I wouldnt spend on Diaz though. DeGrom replacing Morton, you have my attention lol.

If we go starter, I prefer rodon. Assuming he opts out

He'll probably want a long-term deal, i dont see AA doing that. DeGrom could probably be had for only 2 years with an option, or 3 years. Wouldnt be against Rodon at all though. There's certainly alot of starters if we're looking to replace Charlie this winter.

I’m guessing deGrom gets slightly more than Scherzer got. Folks may want to brace for that type of price tag when they dream about AA signing him.

Right, and as far as I know we don't even have enough payroll space to afford him. Even with the massive increase in payroll we're seeing. I'd just like to see the Braves run up the price on him and force the Mets to overpay in years and annual salary.

He’ll opt out for sure with the season he had. Morton I could see retiring. You can just see the frustration on his face every start. If Morton does retire I’d be all over Rodon.

Yates is currently down with inflammation in the elbow he's had repaired twice and just returned from missing two years trying to get healthy. He needs to be treated the same as Soroka at this point - ANY contribution from him will be a pleasant surprise and a bonus, not a given. Here's to hoping Jackson is fully recovered early on and has enjoyed his time here so much that he'll take a reasonable "prove it" one or two year deal. Tonkin was really impressive, Vodnik is pretty much ready, and there have always been questions about whether Tarnok is better suited as a reliever. Several pieces to mix-and-match with from within - no reason to splurge on the pen, especially when Chavez and Stephens may well be more than happy to return for the league minimum.

A Dansby extension may be a given at this point - there are still doubters, or at least those that feel it might be smarter to save money there (myself included). There have been no signs of him slowing down though, and maybe what he needed was to be put in the #2 hole where he looked to be a perfect fit when he was drafted and just left alone. I just hope that if that's where Alex goes it can be held to something reasonable (5/$100 million maybe) and that it gets settled on soon - there are other concerns that need to be addressed.

I'm beginning to think this is the end of the road for Morton - after his early struggles last season he made the adjustments and became dominant again during the second half. That just doesn't seem like it's going to happen this time around. With the questions that will continue to follow Soroka, Anderson, Muller, and the others Alex probably has to go get a replacement to lock down the #4 spot in the rotation. That $20 million AAV Charlie's taking down should be plenty enough to play on the Eovaldi/Bassitt/Clevinger/Manaea/Taillon/Walker level, but every extra dollar spent on Dansby makes it all but impossible to chase Rodon - deGrom simply isn't going to come close to happening unless they're going to get permission to pay a big chunk of money for exceeding the luxury tax (which they won't do with corporate ownership in place). Maybe another deep postseason run would provide enough money to extend Dansby AND step up for Rodon, but I'm not sure that Alex would be allowed to play on the deGrom level even if they hang another flag.

DeGrom has made what 9 starts this season.

I doubt he commands what people think he will. He hasn't tossed more than 92 innings in the last three seasons.

I could be wrong but FO guys won't see that as a wise 40 M investment.
