Official official offseason thread

The AAV for Turner isnt bad, those backend years could be rough. But mostly depends if they can win a WS by that time or not.

Does winning a WS make it worth it? Winning one in 2021 doesn't make me feel better if we suck for 5 yards after it

AA won’t go up on his offer to Dansby so that ship has sailed. Just bc the Phillies are stupid doesn’t mean the Braves will be.

I agree. I think this all but eliminates Dansby. If the rumors of him wanting 6/140 and us saying no are true, then he’s all but gone. AA doesn’t care about names; he cares about value and there isn’t value with what Dansby has been rumored to be commanding. While I think these prices are insane, and very well may be out of our budget, at some point we’re going to have to address ss, either through free agency or via a trade. If we go the free agency route, these prices will only climb, annually. So AA may be forced to bite the bullet at some point, or just cobble the position together. Who knows. But AA historically isn’t stupid or shortsighted so I doubt we end up paying someone this kind of price.

How many teams win WS by building through FA? Aren't most winners grown through farm system?

Certainly building through the farm system is the best way. Who knows how sustainable this is for Philly.

Mets and Phillies got better today

Astros and Dodgers got worse

I love free agency

How much better is replacing DeGrom with Verlander? Plus Mets have Walker, Bassit as FA's. Astros have a ton of pitching, it's not as big of a hit. Dodgers got worse, for sure.

Does the Turner deal make the Dodgers Correa's most likely destination. I have to figure this just makes any offer the Twins would come up with dead in the water.

The Mets are not done by any stretch of the imagination. You could bank on them getting 1 of Verlander/deGrom/Rodon and then getting at least 1 of the lower tier pitchers like Bassit or Walker.
