What I think will keep us from trading for Reynolds (other than a handful of teams being able to top our package) would be what it means for the future of shortstop and catcher, assuming it would take either Contreras or Grissom or both to land him.
If we trade Grissom and don't sign Correa/Swanson, then it seems like it'll be a line of stopgaps unless someone lower down the prospect list springs up more quickly. Are we going to be willing to pay Tim Anderson a bunch of money next offseason? If we trade Contreras, are we confident TDA can continue to be productive through 2024? We'd basically have to pick up his option for that year because there doesn't appear to be much else coming available on the market and no one I know of ready to crack the big-league team as it stands.
