Official official offseason thread

Especially since we had catcher solved for at least one more season.

What if Contreras goes out and hits to a 130 wrc+ next season in 500 ABs while managing to not be a complete negative in LF?

I honeslty don't get it. Think its a bad move with the principals discussed already.

I don't think there's anyway someone would put WillyC in LF.

Evan Gattis redux.

We have to be getting 1 more piece back I’d guess. We used a lot of trade capital to get something really didn’t need imo. We could have used WB in a deal for Reynolds unless Pitts didn’t wanna trade him at all.

TBH love Contreras bat, but he's likely a DH\backup C.

With the pitch clock and changes, I think you are gonna want a guy back there who can limit the run game.

Yeah - I think its clear Contreras isn't a catcher but I'd like to know if he can fake it in LF before we trade him for position where we have a good solution for the upcoming season. I know you have to plan 3-5 years in the future as well but this seems like an interesting way to use one of our better Bats.

Is Adames considerably better than Dansby or just cheaper for the time being. Love the power, but a .298 OBP doesn't seem wonderful. Nor does a .238 avg..(meh, I know), 4.4 WAR to Dansbys 5.7. I mean I'd take him.....

I like Contreras, but I really think he's a bat only guy. I've been derided for that opinion before, but I don't think there's any way the Braves sign Pina last off-season to a two-year deal if they truly trusted Contreras behind the plate.

A lot of us were conjecturing about Murphy when the possibility first surfaced, but he only makes sense if it was a more complex deal that could line up several teams. I guess we are going to see it unfold.

Yeah - I think more pieces are going to be announced.

Just hate giving up a guy that could (IN BEST CASE SCENARIO) be a 140+wRC+ bat.

Kiley

Source confirms that Milwaukee's end of this trade was:

UTL Esteury Ruiz (to OAK)
for
RHP Justin Yeager (from ATL), RHP Joel Payamps (from OAK), and C William Contreras (from ATL)

Still unclear if there's more names exchanged between ATL and OAK than have been reported.

WC has 3 more years of control over Murph.. plus everyone else..

AA will work his magic on Murphy so those extra years right now means nothing to me.

Pina- eh. Happy we freed up his 4.5 million
Muller - never a fan
Tarnok- good prospect
Contreras - good hitter, but not a good defensive catcher

Murphy - gold glove catcher who can hit - if you want to see hurt, go read how As fans think about trading Murphy. Go read Mets and Phillies fans wondering how we just landed a top tier catcher in baseball.

Opinions are opinions. And mine is I’m thrilled.

We have to be signing a shortstop or LF along with this if we aren't getting Adames. Otherwise, we haven't had a net improvement of our offense and given away trade capital.

We are saving over 4 million in this deal though.

If this deal allows them to go get Corea or resign Dansby then I’m happy with it.
Other then that it’s a confusing trade unless they just feel William is that bad defensively then it starts to make a little more sense.
