Official official offseason thread

He was on pace to win MVP if he didnt get hurt in 21. That first half was incredible. Had 3.6 WAR in 82 games.

It’s clear we don’t want to add anymore payroll and get hit with the tax. If we didn’t sign the top end like Correa or Turner, or the middle end like Dansby or Xander, and we aren’t signing the bottom end like Myers, it’s clear we have no intention to add more payroll. And the only way we add now or at the deadline is if we somehow get someone to take Ozuna or Rosario off our hands and eat their salary. It’s truly sad when you think about it. We just won the World Series, had a record attendance last season, and have the Battery as a cash cow; but nope, we don’t want to spend anymore.

Myers would be a spare part although he'd have been a fit, so I get not signing him given the tax implications. The cost/benefit really isn't there. But of all the off-season moves or lack thereof, I'm starting to question the decision to send $10 MM in Odorizzi's back pocket when he was shipped to the Rangers. I fully understand and appreciate not wanting to hit the luxury tax threshold, but I also don't think it's a great idea to be paying guys who are playing elsewhere.

I understand sending money along with him to get rid of him, but I probably would have asked for a better player in return than Kolby Allard if the cost was 10 million. Or a worse player back and we send less cash. Or if we can’t do anything with “the savings” of shipping him off, I would have kept him and tried to fix him before we traded him.

I keep hearing about AA waiting to find value in a player/contract in order to sign him but that hasn’t presented itself. We’re literally sitting on our hands. Where is the value/player? I don’t think he exists.

If you aren't a fan of Acuna and his passion for the game and the energy he brings, then you are a miserable person.

Also, the MLB (and the Braves) is missing a huge opportunity not marketing up these young, exciting guys. They'd rather tamper with different types baseballs and worry about pitch clocks. Like the average potential MLB fan is gonna notice a difference in a 2.75 hr game vs a 2.5 hr game. If you want to grow the sport, you have to sell the players.

Major League Baseball is not the NBA, most fans follow teams not players.

I mean…you still have to market your players. The NFL isn’t the NBA, but they know how to market their players. That’s why most NFL stars are household names, at least the ones that play offense. When someone has no rooting interest in either team playing in a given game, they still tune in to see those stars. Basically no one other than maybe Mike Trout or Aaron Judge are household names in MLB. That’s unacceptable.

I don't see either NY team or California team. Don't think one of those teams are ready to face the backlash from the media there. Small market is much more likely imo

I actually dont think the Mets would sign him but the way this offseason has gone... I guess you cant count anything out these days.
