Trade deadline thread

Angels GM going down fighting at least.

He was a former Brave. He's trying to show Ohtani they'll do what it takes to win. Like 95 percent chance he's in LA next year, either Dodgers or Angels.

Lorenzen doesnt move the needle. I'm not sure we have enough to land ERod.

The only players the Braves can acquire that would move the needle imo are high leverage relievers. They simply don't have the pieces to get a bat that's going to supplant Rosario or a starter that's going to supplant Morton/Elder in the rotation. That said someone like Lorenzen would make sense to make sure we don't have Shuster/AJSS/etc starting the rest of the season and as a contignency if one of our good starters go down.

Flaherty is like the only other name out there. But for moving the needle, yes, i agree another top end bullpen arm would make the most sense.

I'd prefer Flaherty just for the Fried connection. But both names would serve the same purpose.

If Striker has a weakness it’s posting a long winded hypothesis on this board falling in love with his own lawyery voice overs in a very Morgan Freeman tone

I'll be sure to use short sentences and small words in the future to help you out.

I know it won’t happen but Cease would be my main target.

It does sound like AA's working the phones. Just nothing close yet to anything big. I think he makes one move out of nowhere, that no one will see coming.

We have more than enough for ERod. He's doing well this year but that opt out robs him of a lot of value. If he's good you lose him but if he's terrible or gets hurt, you're stuck with him. No one has been drastically overpaying for starters so the cost probably isn't that high

AA knows a regular SP isn’t gonna help us much. He needs an impact SP and that’s why he checked in on JV. He knows what the cost would be now and probably does on everybody he wants. He just evaluates it now to see if the cost is worth it or not. He won’t go for a rental he’ll want some control.

How many teams there are isn't really all that relevant. All it takes is a hot 2-3 weeks.

It's relevant in that every team above you is a hot streak away from leaving you in the dust. The more teams ahead of you the better chance one gets hot.

They have plenty of opportunity against WC leaders over the next month and they are close enough to have a legit chance. As has been states many times, their Pythagorean is much better than their current record, so they're certainly capable of getting back into it.

Odd logic, but they do line up. Lorenzen is a reasonable rental who can line up after Fried, Strider and maybe Morton, and EdRod is likely the best pitcher available this entire trade deadline.

Grabbing EdRod is pretty risky if he ends up opting-in, but he’s definitely a piece that could make a real difference. If AA can get him for a 45 due to the increased risk, he could be the missing piece.

I'd still like to get a reliever, preferably one with closer experience in case Iglesias gets hurt/sucks it up. And Brad Hand is still my top target here.

If they do that they are so dumb. It's not just that they are 5 games out, they have to hop 4 teams to get in.

Padres have 2 options, going Nuclear and trading everyone (Soto, Hader, Snell, Darvish, etc. basically anyone but Tatis, Bogaerts, and Machado) or they need to ride this year out.
