GDT 9/8/23: Braves vs Pirates - Riley rests again

TDA back in there after hitter a homer lol. AA will have to step in at some point if Murphy is becoming the backup.

Would have given TD the day off vs. playing him back to backs, to keep him fresh for the postseason, but is what it is.

By playing him today, Murphy gets the start tomorrow and day-off for Sunday day-game, forcing TD to play 3 of 4 games. We then have a double header that will force TD to play 4 of 6 games. Would prefer he be fresher if he's going to start game one.

Note at this point this is just as much my own running joke as it is me complaining, but I am convinced TD is starting one of the first two playoff games for the Braves...

Like it or not, the dinosaur manager is probably going to go with the "hot hand" in the playoffs.

Unless, or course, Murphy is banged up and we don't know about it. I have stopped questioning the Braves catcher management.

Its a major concern. I think that's a fact. The question is do we have full conviction that the front office will step in and make clear to Snit that he is an idiot in this respect, and that Murphy needs to play. Because if it is up to Snit, I have no doubt TD would be out there.

For the records TD had 56 ABs in August and Murphy had 55. TD has 11 ABs in September and Murphy has 12. TD about to go to 15 after today.

Wut?

AA sent tiwtner a message saying that he needs to play Murphy more, like multiple games in a row... So twit scratched his head and drooled a little while mumbling really good several times and finally figured it out after 4 hours of staring at the text message. He can just play TDA in 2 games in a row and then Murphy 2 in a row and problem solved.

I think the Braves catcher management can be explained pretty easily. I believe AA and Snit remember the catcher crisis of 2021 vividly and said never again. They want to make sure quality catching depth is available to the team at all times.
