The Braves are still getting racist hate mail about Hank Aaron

It's Jackie Robinson Day, a day when baseball takes a moment to recognize the man who broke the sport's color barrier, and the Braves continue to sift through hundreds of letters, many of them littered with racial slurs, bashing Hank Aaron.

"Hank Aaron is a scumbag piece of (expletive) (racial slur)'' a man named Edward says in an e-mail to the Braves front office and obtained by USA TODAY Sports.

Edward invokes the epithet five times in four sentences, closing with, "My old man instilled in my mind from a young age, the only good (racial slur) is a dead (racial slur)."

Aaron was a reluctant civil rights figure to begin with, but told USA Today last week that he keeps much of his old hate mail as a reminder "that we are not that far removed from when I was chasing the record."

As an example he offered up the right-wing critics of the first black president, and said, "The bigger difference is that back then they had hoods. Now they have neckties and starched shirts."

It was that comment that initiated the deluge of correspondence to the Braves, even as Aaron was being honored on the anniversary of his breaking the all-time home run record.

The Braves have been besieged by hundreds of letters, e-mails and phone calls deriding Aaron for his comments made to USA TODAY Sports.

Marion calls Aaron a "racist scumbag.'' Ronald won't attend another Braves' game until Aaron is fired. Mark calls Aaron a "classless, racist.'' David says that he will burn Aaron's I Had A Hammer autobiography.
According to MLB, 8.3 percent of players on opening-day rosters identified as African-American, down from a high of about 19 percent in 1986.

Somebody is trolling.

This made me laugh for some (sad) reason.

Wondering here what would make you laugh? The fact Aaron has a book or the fact David owns a book?

Reading the book you'd learn Aaron hit cross handed until ( I think) he reached the high minors.

Question to the group, have any of you seen an MLB cross handed hitter?

Why is he ignorant?

"President Obama is left with his foot stuck in the mud from all of the Republicans with the way he's treated. The bigger difference is that back then they had hoods. Now they have neckties and starched shirts."

No matter which side of the political realm you sit that seems to be an apt description of the past 6 years.
Please show contrary evidence where (R) has done anything but create mud bogs for POTUS.

Let's revisit the issue of the Birth Certificate. I seem to recall the Minority Leader of the Senate ( that would qualify as a Republican in a starched shirt and tie ) claiming the issue unresolved.
In fairness, (D) insisted on seeing Reagan, Bush Sr and 43 birth certificates too.
Remember?
And what country was the one in question? Seeden? Norway? No, that's right Kenya -- that is in the country of Africa --- right?
And, what color are most Africans? And the KKK protected white people from what ---- ?

Would you like to talk nominees where in past the posts were filled -- or even the government shutdown -- or ACA -- or even Lilly Ledbetter. Forget how much (R) support was behind that.
Shoot, (R) won't even pass a Farm Bill for fear Obama might get some credit.

Hell, Obama's opponents can't even spell MORON
From here i feel fairly confident history will be kind to not only Mr Obama but to Aaron's comment

Yes, let's generalize everyone.

All muslims are terrorists, after all.

where did i generalize there? i wonder who the guy voted for

you made your own conclusion from that

and we know for a fact that all terrorists aren't muslim

I just want to know why FOX NEWS didn't sensationalize the recent shootings in Fort Hood and in Kansas.

Oh, no money and ratings to be had if the shooters aren't muslim.

let's not get off topic

i am enjoying seeing some late 20 year old white males get angry at a hero that has been and still is going through things that they will never experience and tell me how Hank is ignorant for it

Hank's not ignorant for experiencing what he went through. Hank is ignorant for comparing house republicans to KKK members. If you can't see that, then there is no point in continuing to debate you

let's say this a different way

if it was socially acceptable to still be out in the open about being in or supporting the KKK, how many house republicans dod you think would do so?

do you think more house republicans or democrats would come out in favor? in todays house that is

just a hypothetical

I would say, hypothetically, zero. If you disagree, tell me which ones would be dancing in the hoods.

really?

well your answer isn't very intelligent then since in history we know that there were many who didn't mind the fact to be associated with them when it was socially acceptable in this country

Ugh, off topic much? Stay on target Mod.

Fox News helps incite muslim hate in this country.

It so happens a certain fringe in the country believes Obama is muslim.

They didn't overreport these shootings because the shooter wasn't a muslim.

There's your racism right there. If the shooters were arab/muslim, then we all know what Fox News would be covering 24/7, and then turn it around and say Obama knew.

Who do you suspect, and why?

cause their base lines up with that view point and they want votes

not really sure why we are going down this road if you are going to sit there and actually believe this though: "I would say, hypothetically, zero."

To be honest there is more KKK amongst the Democrats than Republicans. Just think, they all have the blacks under their thumb (the welfare carrot is mighty strong), in a way they own them, they just don't have to be so bold about it.

It doesn't help when the second most populous African country Muslims are kidnapping females and subjugating them or worse then wanting it to be a Muslim lead country.

This is a reason why they are look down upon. No person should be subjugated to this.
