"I don't like Trevor Bauer as a person so I'm fine with him getting extorted, falsely accused of rape, and his career and reputation destroyed"

So virtuous

As an aside, my old college friends brother was one of the Duke Lacross players falsely accused of rape. Of course was later found innocent, but he life was destroyed for several years and still has the stigma about it to this day.

There is a clear victim here and it ain't the psycho lady

I am not sure why you keep pushing this.. let it go. No one here has said anything good about the girl.. she is not the point of focus. Trevor may not have broken any laws, but is he a good person is what people are discussing. I think it is a matter of personal opinion and there will not be anyone who is 'right'. I personaly don't think hitting anyone is sexy, so no, I am not a huge Trevor fan.. I doubt I would want to share a team with him either, so I think most if not all teams are going to respect the feelings of players who might also think he is disgusting and not sign a super talented pitcher. I personally haven't read much on this, so I am going on hear se.. but it sounds like they are both evil people that deserve crap karma for the rest of their lives..

I think a more appropriate debate, probably not on a Braves forum, is whether someone falsely accussing a guy of rape should be held criminally liable. That is a pretty slippery slope, because you don't want to make real victims feel they could get in trouble for coming forward.

I'm not sure if you addressing me or not. But I don't recall seeing anyone in this thread say they were fine with him getting extorted. Two people can do ****ty things at the same time.

I imagine there are some rape trauma counselors out there saying "Thanks a lot" (add sarcasm EMOJI) to the woman involved in this mess.

9 Finalists for the NL Hank Aaron Award were announced. Feels like this how how the top 10 for MVP will shake out.

Acuna
Olson
Betts
Freeman
Arraez
Bellinger
Carroll
Harper
Soto

Ozuna got screwed

Of course he did. I guess you have to have the batting title winner in there and 3 Braves might be a bit too much.

FWIW. That group represents the top 9 in offensive runs above average if you replace Ozuna and Arraez. Pretty good list overall. And Acuna should be the unanimous winner. He was by far the best offensive player in the league.

Were I a betting man, I would give odds that Braves will not be allowed to finish 1-2.

Betts will finish above Olson. Never underestimate the bias of the voters.

Speaking of bias, Betts was a better offensive player this year than Olson.

This is incredibly close, at least as of Thursday afternoon when I’m writing this. Betts is at 8.3 fWAR to Acuña’s 8.0, and 8.5 rWAR to Acuña’s 8.2, so he’s ahead in both metrics but by a very small margin. There’s a great argument for both guys, and Acuña’s more likely to win with the appeal and coverage of his 40/70 season, but I’d go with Betts here because of the versatility he’s brought to the Dodgers this year, playing about 40 percent of his innings at second base and obviously providing more offense than the team was going to get from any outside acquisition at the position.

Acuña has a little more playing time than Betts, leading him by 44 plate appearances, with comparable rate stats, but he’s been a lot worse defensively in right field than Betts by any measure. He’s at minus-9 Outs Above Average this year per Statcast, ahead of only Jordan Walker among regular right fielders, while Betts is at minus-1 OAA in 106 games in right. Betts has also played 67 games at second base and been an average defender there, even though he’d barely played the position in his 10 seasons in the majors, and filled in at short for all or part of 16 games, where he was at minus-2 OAA. So Betts is just barely ahead in the two main measures we have for a player’s total value, and did something else — fill in at two positions where the team needed him, despite having limited experience, and played one of them well enough that the Dodgers were able to get by with just a minor addition via trade in Amed Rosario. I get why many people think Acuña should win, but the 40/70 thing is more fun and interesting than it is meaningful beyond the pure value of those homers and steals.
