Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Yikes. They won’t be resigning Hader and Snell for sure. I’m sure they’ll be taking offers for Soto and at least another expensive player.

Even before the loan news came out there were reports that they were going to have cut payroll drastically.

I hope Kimbrel signs with a team with low expectations for winning and be their closer. Maybe go to the Royals or the Marlins for a few years. Rack up 30-40 saves per season and get back on track to breaking Rivera's record. Seems unlikely unless he pitches to age 43 or so, but it's still doable if he can get back to saving 30-40 games a season for the next few yrs.

We haven't seen this Braves FO give any free agent pitchers long term deals. It's hard to believe that they'd break that to sign someone from Japan.

Especially since the organizational memory is that relying on free agent pitching is not a sustainable model.

That's at least a little funny considering Maddux was arguably the greatest FA signing in history, and certainly the greatest Braves FA in history.

I’m curious to see what AA does for the rotation. We should hear something on Morton soon I’d think.

Man if you told Mets fans last year that Max and DeGrom would be WS winners in 2023 They'd have gotten kinda excited.

WS winners without pitching that much. Do they get a cheaper ring?

Carp, if Kimbrel goes to the Royals, he probably won't rack up 30-40 saves for a team that is probably only going to win 50 games.

Thing I am going to miss a lot this off-season is clvclv's absence when discussing decisions around the 40-man roster. I'm sure he's still lobbying from the Great Beyond for Drew Lugbauer to be added.

May be, may be not. The general idea though is him going somewhere where they won't be in a rush to replace him the first time he goes 3 consecutive outings giving up a run.

Better yet, our old pal Jake Odorizzi earned himself a ring this season without throwing a pitch for the Rangers.

Good mention. And come to think of it, Odorizzi was another guy that clvclv just loved and wanted in a Braves' uniform. Too bad he didn't get to live to see it. I remember someone's sig (it might have been his) went something like "Matt Adams for Jake Odorizzi. It just makes too much sense."

What is the board opinion on Harrison Bader? I'm not necessarily advocating for him, but he's an above average OF who can play CF. RHH who doesn't hit RHP very well, but career OPS against LHP is .824. Didn't have a good 2023 and he's 30, so it may be expected decline. I know MFII is on board given Bader's Gator past.

I think he’s on the cheaper end (along with pricier options like Teoscar Hernández and Lourdes Gurriel) of guys I expect the Braves to target for an LF platoon with an option-picked-up Eddie Rosario. The downside, unlike the pricier options, is he’s not really an everyday option if injury or ineffectiveness hit the OF; the upshot is his defense is much more of an asset.

I’d love to see the Braves truly upgrade LF, but I don’t see many options out there currently.

Not that I expected it to happen, but I was in favor of the Braves claiming him when the Yankees did their waiver purge (in fairness, even if we did claim him the Reds had higher priority and we'd never know). He's got a pretty perfect fourth outfielder skillset, though I think we're now past the point where you can hope on him being a starter. Plus, he does have serious injury concerns, and that can be a red flag when teams are looking for reliability and availability out of a bench player.
