I was thinking of that as well. AA would have to sell the receiving team on the fact that Elder has had above average production since being in the rotation and that last year, he just tired towards the end. The Rays seem like a good team that could take Elder and have him fit right in. Most of their starters only go 4 or 5 innings anyway.

Glasnow for Elder, Grissom, fulff.....would keep them competitive and give us a ToR starter to slide between Fried and Stirder. Then Lopez is the primary hybrid/opener/starter for the 5th spot with AJSS and Waldrep eventually getting a few starts when someone hits the IL eventually or needs a start skipped.

Either way, I really feel like this is the season we DO need a ToR starter. I know some have mentioned a #3 this year and ToR next....but with Fried having those injury issues, that elbow inflammation he had makes me feel like it could go at anytime.
 
But there are dumb teams. At his best, Elder is a #4/#5 who can eat innings. That said, there's no question that he outpitched his stuff by a good margin in 2023. I think he would be a secondary part to any deal.
 
Glasnow would definitely fit that TOR arm but he has a lot of question marks too. Next offseason we could offer him and Fried QO but we’d be 3 starters down.
 
I read that Grissom is playing LF in Winter ball in Puerto Rico. Any idea about how he is doing?

I mean last year he spent the entire winter working with Wash… right 😉
 
I could be wrong. But I just have a feeling we will all be left disappointed by how this off season ends up turning out.

I mean, we could go into next year with the team as is and have as good of chance as any to win the WS. We dont need to do a whole lot. But i trust in AA, and think he'll make the right moves.

I'm with you...I think we've made our upgrade at pitching...maybe a bat to play LF and I think we roll as is...everyone always goes crazy when the FO announces payroll is going up.

If AA shifts his focus to LF, SD needs pitching and could use Elder if we could put a package together for Soto. Not likely to happen, but that would be a big add.

The problem for us though would be the need to still fill a SP position and our depth would be decimated.

I'm still not entirely sure I believe that the Braves even made that offer. With AA's front office being so close to the vest, nothing ever leaks out. It always felt like rumors floated by agents.

Do we know this to have happened? I know nothing, like always, but I feel like this just never happened- or if it did, it was most likely AA making sure the Phillies overpaid for an arm that’s gonna be in serious decline to take them out of the SP market and further wreck their future.
 
Cubs have spoken with the Jays about a Bo Bichette trade.

Guy put up 4.9 WAR last season while playing SS and is signed through 2025....AA has made upgrades at spots that we didn't think we needed to upgrade at. I wonder if that would be something he could sneak in on.
 
Projected for 4 WAR next year. Makes $27.5m over the next two years. That's a pretty big surplus value to overcome in a trade.
