Eh, you are applying the benefit of hindsight here to devalue them as prospects though, they were worth a bunch more in 2007 prospect capital. On top of that Beau Jones was included in that trade as well, and was a higher ranked prospect than Feliz at the time. Feliz was treated as basically a...
Baseball America had them ranked as follows going into 2007:
Salty was 36th
Andrus was 65th
Harrison was 90th
At the beginning of 2008 BA had Andrus 19th and Feliz 93rd.
So they were very well thought of prospects at the time.
The major problem with the Tex trade was that we needed pitching...
It will be interesting to compare the performance of Beau Philip, picks 5-10, and the bigger overslot guys we signed from 11-40 to Allan, since that is basically the difference between signing him for 2.5-3 mil or so if we had drafted him with our second pick. We've had good luck with the...
Yeah, Shewmake and Langeliers are pretty much the opposite of each other in terms of prospect concerns. Shewmake has the good hit tool but power questions that lead to position questions. Langeliers has good power for his position but the question is whether his hit tool will carry. Hopefully...

School starts at the beginning of August and ends in May here in Arizona, I know it's the same for my niece in Alabama as well. I think that is standard these days for most places.
Gee I dunno, maybe because there have been many players over the years that have succeeded with low walk rates? I mean yeah, I'd much rather see a player with a high walk rate than not obviously, but low walk rates are in no way a definite sign of huge concern. As long as the player has good...
Not really, there are players who have done similarly and done just fine, obviously the numbers will drop a bit but some players just have high BABIP in the minors. For example, here are Starling Marte's minor league numbers, which I think Waters is doing a decent job of imitating so far in some...
People hated how early soroka was taken and thought he could have been taken with the Riley pick, I don't remember too many hating him as a player. And people were mostly fine with Allard simply because every decent bat had already gone before him.
There is really nothing to pump one up with...
And that's why it is a super questionable pick. Guys that barely hit over .300 in college have a terrible track record of hitting in the pros. It doesn't matter how good his defense is, if he can't manage to hit .250ish in the majors he'll be a backup.
Hopefully he bucks the trend, but his hit...
Before he fell off Dee Gordon had two 3.6 fWAR seasons and a 4.8 fWAR season. So a little better version of Gordon would be a consistent 4 WAR player and crazy valuable.
Of course, and nobody is saying it wouldn't help everyone. But it's obviously going to help those who make better contact moreso, because they have more chances for the extra power to help. It's just common sense.
Doesn't mean Bishop won't wind up a much better hitter than Carrol, but a guy...
