3/30 GDT Sunday night baseball vs padres

BAD, BAD news. Mike Rodriguez @mikedeportes Breaking News: According to my sources, Atlanta Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar tested positive for some substances banned by the MLB and will be suspended. #Braves #JuricksonProfar 1906807617894412567

Like the Fairchild add. Better short-side platoon option (career wRC+ vs LHP of 107) as compared to Bryan De La Cruz (career wRC+ vs LHP of 91). Also, much better defender.

3/30 GDT Sunday night baseball vs padres

We obviously need all the good news we can get, so the combination of Jose Suarez looking useful + AA taking his medicine on Neris has me feeling a little better. Chavez should take over the role of pitching meaningless innings with Suarez moving up a notch on the leverage ladder. Grant...

    GDT 3/27: OPENING DAY!!!!

While my preference was to add a high leverage reliever from the jump, I can grudgingly accept the idea of adding a bunch of bounce-back candidates as NRIs to see if anyone emerges. Problem is, we had 3 spots and only one guy emerged (De Los Santos). This started to become pretty clear 2-3...

    GDT 3/27: OPENING DAY!!!!

Point well taken. He was gonna throw the pitches today anyway (probably even more than he did), but they're higher stress pitches in a game.

    GDT 3/27: OPENING DAY!!!!

I don't mind Holmes throwing his side during the game. It's kind of a "use it or lose it" situation. Given the state of things in the pen, I don't think this is the last time we'll see it.

    GDT 3/27: OPENING DAY!!!!

The Neris situation has me fuming. He struggled last year and showed a lot of warts this Spring. Today's outing was actually a littler better than the one last Thursday where he was missing locations and allowing absolute rockets. I'm honestly not sure what boxes he even did check to make...

I have no real qualms with the Anderson for Suarez swap on.a valuation basis. Suarez is probably a slightly better pitcher. Still though, I'm disappointed with how the bullpen situation was handled. After auditioning a boat-load of guys, we had one guy exceed expectations in Enyel De Los...

Really small sample, so trying to stay hopeful . . . but Profar's instincts in LF don't look good. He's a fairly athletic guy, but bad reads / bad jumps are a regular occurrence. He comes across as a guy who will put in the work to get better, so maybe the staff can help him along a bit this...

Yeah, noticed this too. Checks out on Savant. That's WAY up. Maybe this is too obvious to say, but he figures to give the Braves a better option than Anderson as the 6th starter...

That's now 18 walks in 17 innings for Anderson. I feel for the guy, but I'm starting to think he's on the outside looking in. There are any number of ways they can pull off the quasi 6-man rotation that Snit intends to use without him until Strider is ready.

Amazing from Strider. Looks like he threw all 4 pitches, but not certain about the CU. 94-98 MPH on the 4-seamer. I wasn't expecting him to go more than 1 inning. It feels like they've been playing coy on how far along he is . . . I ain't mad at it.

Hard not to be excited about AJSS. CoolToday Park gun clocked a first inning FB at 100 and a couple 4th inning FBs at 99. Generated quite a few awkward swings on the breaking stuff. Still a little raw though. Some hangers (mostly the new Cutter) and some non-competitive pitches. 8 Ks and no...

Anyone else concerned about Reynaldo Lopez? He last pitched on 3/7 and his velocity was down around 3 MPH. His normal day to pitch would have been Thursday, but they went with the bullpen game instead. I don't recall the beat writers saying anything about him pitching on the back fields...

As the bullpen world turns . . . Perdomo faces the minimum in 1.1 IP against actual big leaguers, including 2 Ks. FB velocity still 92-94, below pre-injury. Had a great back-foot slider to Crews, then kind of hung one to Wood (but got away with it). No walks is probably the headline...
