Weiss was a manager 10 years ago. Analytics wasn't created then. But he was very against it.
Give me a manager that isn't just now catching up, but someone who saw the evolution early and adapted earlier rather than learning how to adapt on the fly in this contention window.
It's like when...
Not necessarily.
Could be, if we're gonna hire external, I want this guy also to be added.
But since Weiss is internal, probably will keep things closer to familiarity.
You’ve lived long enough to see John McGraw, Leo Durocher, Connie Mack, Bobby Cox twice, all of his protégés take over at some point. Lombard in a few years. Then probably Brian McCann at some point.
Also, just realized...
George Lombard and Walt Weiss were previously teammates... 1998-2000 for us.
Maybe there is hope AA forces Weiss to bring Lombard on as bench coach... and Lombard takes over eventually. Weiss is 61. Lombard is 50. Snit was early 60's when he took over for us after Fredi...
Chipper already said his wife and kids have given him the green light to spend more time working with the team again. Can't remember if he implied full-time or just like 75% of the time, in that case he wouldn't be the actual hitting coach just like a consultant.
Yeah Roberts has been managing for a while. Already solidified his HOF credentials as a manager.
This could be one of those Schumaker being the manager in waiting thing... but with Lehmann it's probably understood behind closed doors.
Only thing I could think of is they wanted to wait post-WS...
BRING ON LEHMANN.
AA waited til after the WS so the portion of the fanbase stuck in the past can't bitch about him hiring the young bench coach from the team that just won back-2-back world series.
