i didn't realize he meant a bus packed with explosives...that's a bit rad for my tastes...otoh if he is going to pay for the buses and explosives by taxing the rich i might come around to the idea
 
I’d rather not see people criticize Mamdani for his ethnicity, religion, or general background because it distracts from his abhorrent views, which deserve to be thoroughly ridiculed and thrown in the waste bin of terrible ideas.

At the same time, he’s someone who is perfectly comfortable with and will defend the use of “globalize the intifada,” someone who runs to Twitter on Oct 8th to criticize Israel’s cutting off electricity to Gaza, as if there wasn't anything that may have happened on Oct 7th that triggered such a response, someone who is willing to craft a tax policy that explicitly mentions shifting the tax burden onto white neighborhoods, and I could go on and on.

I think he’s a morally repugnant person who’s clearly willing to use race and religion to divide people …it’s central to both his worldview and mayoral platform. So from that angle, yeah, I can see why he may trigger some pretty ugly responses in return.

I think the situation is a bit more complicated than picking out one atrocity.
Yes 7 Oct was an atrocity but it has to get in line with generations of atrocities.
Complicated ( yes that word again) .

I have met and learned peaceful peoples on both sides of this and for the life of me dont see how a peace hasn't been reached.
Oh yeah water rights. This is the desert.
Having said that I find post the 1967 war the Muslim community has circled around the Palestinians.
And for good reason

Yup. I share your moral repugnance towards anyone who "uses race and religion to divide people." It is something that I would hope all people of good will can come together on.

That class does not meaningfully matter at the voting booth, but for contributions the Dems only do better with the billionaires that are in the news a lot. Those statistics are very much available, and the GOP does perfectly well with the ultra wealthy, they’re just guys that I’ve never heard of and for many of them that’s deeply intentional.

That said, the criticism is every bit as valid, though I’ve contended for a while now that the issue isn’t with the Dems as a political entity so much as the voters themselves not recognizing that the ultra rich celebrities they idolize for getting on stage with Kamala Harris or Bernie Sanders could literally just band together and fund many of the things they want the government to fund. If the left accepts as a central premise that the ultra rich should be contributing more to the social safety net, why do it solely through taxes that we claim are not being taken from the rich? If taxes pay to solve homelessness, both I and Beyoncé are paying to solve it. If Beyoncé and all her friends do some philanthropy, I’m taken out of the equation entirely.

Note that this is not meant to imply it is Beyoncé’s personal responsibility to stop homelessness or not live her life however she chooses. But if leftist politics is going to move forward with the ultra elite as their focus, someone ought to realize that government isn’t the only possible avenue for wealth redistribution and that working class Americans might caucus better without letting their immensely wealthy surrogates be such a big part of their messaging.
