2025 Trade Deadline Thread

Like Cheff said when we got Sale, the whole mindset should be to baby him to get him to October. Well Snit didn't get the memo and let him throw over 100 pitches and still pitch another inning and here we are. That should be a fireable offense right there. 60 days is probably dated back 10 days or more so that would be around the 6-7 week period we thought originally. And the extra inning would have probably been fine had Sale not made a dumb ass dive on a non crucial play.

I wonder if he regrets it now? 🥹🥹🥹

Austin Riley wrc+
2022 - 144
2023 - 128
2024 - 116
2025 - 107

Now is the time to move him. This time next year, he will be an avg hitter. Sell him now

I noticed you conveniently left out his 136 in 2021.

I’ll bet that Riley will be right at his 120-130 mean by the end of the year. Last year was a slow start and then he fixed himself and then got hurt.

I feel like this season was punted to reset the tax, so another arm wasn't worth worrying about I guess.
Staying under the tax seems to have at least been at least a fall back goal of the offseason.

They had a reasonable expectation of making playoff, maybe winning the division, but were pretty dependent on Health and bounce back offense.

They got some real problems to fix now and it's going to be hard in free agency.

I dont agree we need to get rid of Riley but I would be interested in seeing what we could get from him. It feels like a sellers market in that most of the teams bad enough to sell dont have much to offer. The Oriorles have some good pieces but they might not even be sellers anymore. On top of that most teams selling rentals will want to wait until cloer to the deadline. We should be ready to wheel and deal now. Several teams with good farm systems like the Cubs and Mariners would surely be bidding. Cubs line up perfectly imo. They have several good prospects at AAA specifically the outfield. Owen Cassie could play LF for us right away. Kevin Alcantara would give us a RH CF option to push Harris. And I think we could get even more in return.

My top trade idea is Murphy and Dylan Lee to the Yankees for a package centered around George Lombard Jr.
I like it, but doubt the Yankees would do it.

Meanwhile, I saw the mlb network crew last night clamoring for the Braves to trade Acuña. Not happening.

This offseason will be a good time to approach Acuna for an extension. AA might be reluctant to hand out any more big contracts that extend beyond when we have Acuna locked up.

Unless someone values Murphy as the 3.5-4 fWAR player he is at a discount contract, just keep him
Having 2 great catchers is a luxury we can't afford with the holes that we have. Even figuring that 1 can DH isn't a great plan considering Acuna likely needs to DH more going forward. Plus, we could easily resign Ozuna for another year or 2 at a cheaper rate than Murphy.

If Murphy can bring back a piece or 2 that can contribute in 2026, he needs to go.
