Honestly kind of absurd that they couldn’t. The government doesn’t really have any business telling a church what it can tell its congregation.
We *should* still be taxing megachurches, but that’s because they’re essentially a for-profit business masquerading as if they aren’t.
It seems to me they could just place a reasonable cap on tax exemptions on churches to allow for the faithful at small churches to not be taxed out of existence but not allow for pastors to have private jets, and then we could just stop policing what they say about politics altogether.They can and did.
