TRHLIM

"With Putin, I said 'If you go into Ukraine, I'm gonna bomb the s*** out of Moscow…I'm telling you, I have no choice'…so he goes like, 'I don't believe you.' He said, 'No way.' And I said, 'Way.'"

Quick question though: if the border is secure and we’re getting rid of a bunch of migrants that Joe was letting invade our country, why would the numbers be higher than during the past 4 years of open borders? Were the Measles just hiding for a few years?

I do happen to fully understand the suggestion that an influx of people from impoverished nations could contribute to an uptick, but it’s a weird time to be suggesting it.

I think common sense would tell us both international travel and domestic vaccination rates matter in the current measles outbreak. For ideological reasons some will find comfort emphasizing one over the other.

It is also worth noting that international travel encompasses a lot more than immigration, both legal and illegal. About 70 million foreigners visit each year. And about 100 million Americans travel abroad each year.

So that explains the sudden increase though? Not the major influx from unvaxxed areas ?

Lol

Explaining the 2025 outbreak in measles in terms of immigration when immigration dipped sharply in late 2024 and 2025 is an interesting intellectual exercise. I suppose there is a plausible model involving lags and so forth.

As I've noted international travel occurs every year on a scale that dwarfs immigration. A lot of germs do cross the border. And many of them cross with immigrants. But far more cross the border every year with travelers (visitors and Americans going abroad and returning).

The other factor is low vaccination rates in some parts of the country and certain groups. Even if we could establish that patient zero of the current outbreak was an undocumented immigrant there would be no outbreak with sufficiently high vaccination rates.
