I mean you're not wrong about mediocrity being brutal. We spent most of the 2000s in that boat.
I agree, TF should have been canned. He made too many draft blunders. BLank seems like the kind of guy who gives his executives too much rope to hang themselves. Look at how long RIch McKay had as a GM, much less how long he's had as team president.
That being said, I'm glad we didn't hire Belichick, all the extra BS drama from his escort girlfriend isn't shit I want here.
Sadly I think most of our mistakes fall back to firing QUinn and DImitroff. Dimitroff for all his warts was able to get good teams out there consistently and aside from edge rushers, was able to hit on most of his first round picks. He drafted 2 Hall of Famers (well Ryan will be stupidly held out because of not winning a ring but he's as close to a hall of famer without being one that there is) for a Franchise who doesn't have many of them. Infact, we only have 1 guy who is in the Falcons ring of honor and the Hall of Fame who played most of his career here, Humphrey. Prime technically played more with the Falcons than any other team so we can lay claim to him but he had as many seasons in Dallas, his DPOY was in SF. Prime is a classic he played for a lot of teams and was great for most of them. And Dimitroff also drafted Ring of Honor contenders like Matthews and Grady Jarrett. He was much better than any other GM we ever had. Not perfect but much better. So far he got much more from only 4 top 10 picks (Ryan, Julio, Matthews and Beasley) than TF has gotten from 4. Infact DImitroff's first pick hit so hard it took a long time until we earned a top 10 pick.
I really odn't like DFontenot but I agree I think the division is so bad and our individual talent is good enough for him to keep his to
