Tankathon draft pick watch

I think the most important thing is to get a pick protected from the QO process to allow AA to shop in whatever FA bin he finds himself in. Whether it's pick 3 or 7 doesn't really matter quite as much...they can draft some under slot guy just as easily in either position.

All first picks are protected from the QO process under the most recent CBA. Most teams would have to sacrifice their second pick (no matter what round it’s in) if they sign a QO free agent.

Athletics and Orioles both won, which helps us. Would be nice if we'd lose some games here and there though.

Updated standings:

4. Athletics
4. Baltimore 0 GB
6. Braves 0.5 GB
7. Tampa Bay 2 GB
8. San Francisco 2.5 GB
9. Miami 3 GB

The most predictably stupid part of this final week - the Braves just announced they'll start Strider/Sale in the final two games of the season this weekend.

Damn lol I guess I get it, but if either one gets injured I'll lose it. So, Morton on Friday, followed by Strider and Sale?

Good catch. Since that’s the case, and the Braves are unlikely to get a pick high enough to truly matter, it’s not a huge deal if they pick 5 or 10.

Well we will gain ground on either the Orioles or Rays today. So that's nice. Hopefully it's the Orioles.

Athletics won last night. Orioles lost to the Rays, and the Giants won as well - that pushed the Rays and Giants further from catching up to us.

Today's update:

4. Orioles
5. Braves 0.5 GB
6. Athletics 1 GB
7. Marlins 3 GB
8. Rays 3 GB
9. Giants 3.5 GB
10. Cardinals 3.5 GB

Big day today, even with us off. Orioles-Rays finish their series at 1, Athletics go for the sweep against the Astros at 3:30. It would be huge to get Orioles and Athletics wins today.

We have the h2h record vs the Marlins. So we either need them to win 1 game or us lose 1 game to guarantee finishing worse below them. Ditto for the Cardinals. I find it unlikely the Marlins or Cardinals both get swept AND we sweep the Pirates. So it seems the Rays and O's are the teams we are most interested in.

The Giants aren't a factor anymore. They already have 78 wins and own the h2h record vs us this year. We are guaranteed to finish below them.

The tiebreaker is actually based on 2024 records. So the team with the worst 2024 record gets the higher odds in the case of a tie. That's bad news for us with pretty much everyone - except the Orioles. We have the tiebreaker with them but no one else we're battling with.

How in the world does that make sense? What a dumb rule.

Baseball is full of them.
Like, if a pitch is thrown at the batter and it hits the bat, it’s a strike even if the bat isn’t in the strike zone. So, theoretically, a bat could never leave the batters shoulders and a pitch could be thrown at a hitter’s head, the hitter could duck, and the ball hit the tip of the bat that’s above his head. That would be called a strike. I’ve even seen something close to that scenario happen before. It’s ridiculous. Why are you rewarding the pitcher in that circumstance?

I’ve seen it live. A kid turned the wrong way to get outta the way and it hits the bat
