New Manager Discussion

It's not just that Lehmann coached for the Dodgers, it's the coaching positions he held. He was the "Game Planning and Communications coach" for like 5 years. Then he was the bench coach for 3 seasons.

I honestly don't think you can ask for a better resume from a first time manager. Might he suck and/or clash with guys, and lose the clubhouse? Absolutely, but the same risk comes with any young manager.

Learning on the job has never been a hinderence in my opinion. As a Director, I can say that my first journey into management I was a disaster. Until I understood motivations and the people part of management. I fused that with tough standards and I was able to get others to succeed. I got high level managers in great positions all over the US.

That said, he does sound like a good get. I don't mind risk. And I want the Braves to embody a new spirit. I like the proper way to do things, but I like guys being guys. Draw the line...but be flexible enough to let players play. Accountability. Responsibility. Fun. Either way, I like some of the posters view on this hire.

If it’s those three, I gotta think it’s Lehmann. Otherwise they would have already announced Lombard or Flaherty this week. Unless they wanted to do another interview with Lehmann during this break between postseason rounds. If we don’t hear anything tomorrow, I’d say it’s him.

I would assume that he's narrowed it down to Lombard or Lehmann, and is waiting for the WS to finish up so they can properly interview Lehmann. There's no need to rush. Flaherty I don't want just because he could be tainted by having played under Snit and he's been Haldir of Lorien's bench coach the last few years.

I’ve been a bit hesitant about a guy coming in with this being their first managerial job in the majors, but Lehman or Lombard is an intriguing to me
The thing about Lehmen is, he's had multiple years of on the job training from the premier organization in the league. It's a total unknown right now, but just have to hope he is going to be good with managing the clubhouse and keeping everyone happy.

I always think back to how AA spent those couple of years within the Dodgers front office and applied what he learned when he got the Braves job.

I wish someone would ask Aa what exactly they want in a manager. And I get the feeling the answer would really piss us off.

He would give vague generalities.

Wouldn't go in to specifics about analytics or speak ill of Braves Way.

He'd just say generic stuff like "a character guy that players respect in the clubhouse like Snit"

The fact we haven't announced a manager yet is a fantastic sign. Means we aren't going in-house replacement (Eddie, Fredi, Weiss).

Fredi was named manager days after Bobby's last game, NLDS against Giants. But that's because even though he wasn't on staff he essentially was the internal replacement and handpicked successor. We're 3 weeks since end of regular season and have heard nothing.

100% means AA is waiting to interview Lehmann before deciding.

I feel like it's quite possible he already interviewed Lehmann or at least has initial contact with him. The Braves are so secretive so we'll never know. But Bowman usually gets sprinkled a few breadcrumbs and he put out an article speculating he's in the mix so it adds up.

It could be that Lehmann is already the guy and there's a handshake agreement but it can't be announced until the Dodgers are done. AA knows Lehmann well already so he probably doesn't have to have multiple interviews with him. He's already talked to Lombard I'm sure.
