New Manager Discussion

My only fear with Lehmann is he goes down the Gabe Kapler path. Kapler was very clearly very intelligent, but failed to make it work as manager in Philly. Then he seemed to figure it out in SF for a while, before losing the clubhouse again. Now he's in the Marlins FO where he isn't tasked with interacting directly with players, which seems to not be a strength of his.

I’m not sure how much the Giants quick descension (or even the ascension) had to do with him. Giants already had a veteran clubhouse in place unlike Philly where he had to learn to lead. That 2021 was just lightning in the bottle in the truest sense.

Kapler lost his clubhouses because he’s a … weird dude. Posts about his abs and coconut oil on his website, blasts Norah Jones in the clubhouse, has scented candles everywhere, prefers texting his players to face to face meetings, was highly impersonal with younger players in the clubhouse, lost the Phils clubhouse so badly that players would leave - mid game- to play Fortnite in the clubhouse and then return right before an inning started or stay down there if they were simply on the bench, etc.

You don’t have to be Bobby Cox to be a good people skills manager, you just need to not be Arnie Hammer weird.

All good things for Lehmann to avoid I suppose.

It helps that Lehman has a clubhouse / coaching role currently.

I think Kapler went from Dodgers FO directly to the bench in Philly with no coaching experience
