Coaching staff changes

Rick Kranitz, Tom Goodwin and Freddy Gonzalez are out.

Jeremy Hefner hired as pitching coach. Antoan Richardson hired as first base coach. Both were with the Mets last year.

Hefner is supposed to be really data driven guy and Richardson has a reputation as a great base running coach. I know Mets fans were really sad to see Richardson go.

And when I brought it up last year that I thought the Braves lacked athleticism, I was barraged with all kinds of data and observations that collectively would discount my assessment. I stand by my original thoughts and they look like they are backed up in this tweet.

PS--Richardson has a 1.000 OPS from his short stint with the Braves in 2011. Only 4 ABs, but still.

Have heard really good things on Hefner. Has helped several veteran guys right the ship. And Richardson's influence on base running success is eye popping. It's obviously not all him, but Juan Soto cranking out 30+ SBs with pedestrian sprint speed says something.

Richardson is a fantastic get, as noted above. Losing Kranitz is really tough, though Hefner is well-regarded and has done a nice job over the last few years in NY. He's extremely analytically-minded, which is great.

I have always been a fan of Kranny.. but I am not against a change there.. you can never put blame on pitching injuries on one thing, but maybe his throwing program has not been helpful for the organization. Seems like a hard connection to make, but I am not against getting rid of anyone associated with the 2025 team.

Hard to blame injuries on any one thing, but I think rushing these guys may lead to them overthrowing before they've developed their secondary pitches. Hence, more stress on the arm.

Curious what other changes are in the works.
