2025-2026 offseason thread

I will say this. Signing Suarez to a 170+ million deal a year after letting Max walk for 218 would be..... head scratching to say the least.

Maybe Suarez' market is a lot cooler than we think. ESPN only projected him for 4/92, which seems crazy to me in this SP market.

I am big on signing Suarez if for no other reason so he can't pitch against us in October. That's worth atleast 5 mill a year to me. He does have a chronic back issue and doesn't make 30 starts bit he does pitch deep into games in the regular season and he is good for 5 innings on the playoffs. He isn't reliant on velocity and induces a lot of weak contact. That should age well. I believe Suarez is a year younger than Fried was and if he gets 6 years thats 2 years less than Fried. They just dont want absurdly long contracts for pitchers.

I think they were going to trade Harris for Buxton last year. I suspect it might evolve into a bigger trade now. Some th kng like Buxton/Lopez for Harris/Waldrep.
I'd do that but I'd swap out Lopez for Ryan. We'd have to add another piece to it but they'd probably rather have Harris bc he's healthier. AA has said he won't trade anybody he signed to an extension so who knows.

Not sure i'd give up that pick for Suarez. He's damn good but that extra slot money is huge and there's other starters who you can get without giving up a pick.

Buxton seems like the most likely "holy shit!" move AA could possibly make. It would be the most exciting addition since the Upton brothers were acquired, with about the same likelihood of actually making a positive impact.

Ranger is fools gold imo.. dude requires pin point accuracy to be effective and he hitting the wrong side of 30 with a chronic back issue.... seems like trouble for anyone that signs him long term.

Joe Ryan is set to make 5.8 million in arbitration this year. If he repeats his same year he is looking at 12 million or so in arb next year. That's ripe for a trade and extension. So I could see a trade for Buxton/Ryan with Ryan signing something like 6 years 150 million contract buying out his last 2 arb years and 4 free agent years.

We definitely agree on this. If we could keep Ryan's salary down that first year it would leave plenty to resign Kim too. That would be a dangerous team. Ryan is the exact type of SP we need.

I honestly don't care that much about the 26th pick.

I would not treat it as a barrier to the Braves signing a guy, particularly if the QO has driven down the market (which is probably not going to be case).

You like the deal and the player go for it in my book.

The draft is a crapshoot and it's found money anyway.

I agree, but I am not sure I really like any of the players that have a QO attached. They don't really feel like a great fit for this team outside of maybe Diaz/Tucker/maybe King if the contract is reasonable.

Its not just the draft pick its the draft pool money that comes with it. The 26th pick comes with a 3.5 million draft pool. We really need this to restock the farm.

Yeah no thanks on losing the pick unless it was for Tucker and I don't see that happening. That pick and the money with it is a lot more valuable to us. With all of the extensions locked in place and being limited on who we can get we need all the home grown talent we can get.

Right. And this year that Baldwin Comp pick is like having two first round picks. Thats not something to just give up. Need the infusion of talent into the system.

Most people don’t realize the Braves can flip their farm from bottom-10 to almost top-10 with a good draft thanks to the extra picks and bonus pool money. It’s not something fans obsess over, but it’s a big deal when you’re talking trade leverage. That extra capital goes a long way.

And it's not something that happens very often. We could add a top 3 draft pick and the #26 pick. We're in a very very good situation with the draft and a guy like Ranger Suarez isn't enough to change that imo.

Tucker is the only one worth considering, but you're also accounting for $400M, so that's very debatable. In the end, I think the Braves are better off spending cash to add or just use their current farm to add.
