2025-2026 offseason thread

intriguing trade thought.. but that is tough because you are not really solving the OF issue because you still only have 3 real OF's and no DH still. You are also trading MH salary for Buxton who is a little more expensive but better. Twins would probably want to add more in because Buxton for Harris is probably pretty close to even with MH2 risk of decline equaling Buxton's injury history.

Ryan is way more valuable than MH2.. so adding him would require some significant prospect capital.
Buxton alone probably starts with Caminiti and Waldrep…adding Ryan and you’re probably looking at Caminiti, Ritchie, Tornes and another prospect at least

I don't believe Buxton has nearly the value you think he does.

He's over 30. And while he does a have a below market contract, anyone trading for him knows that the odds he plays in more than 120ish games in the field is pretty slim. So you're not quite getting the same value out of that contract you would normally expect. And his no trade clause limits the amount of teams you can trade him to without his permission.

Man it sure would be nice to pick up one or 2 of these top tier relief pitchers signing pretty affordable contracts...
I think a lot of it depends on the plan with Lopez. He should be in the bullpen but who knows what AA is thinking but I agree we need to pick up one more high leverage RH.

I feel like Riley would have a hard time pulling 7/154 on the open market right now given his previous 2 seasons. He probably beats it in AAV given his age, but it would likely be a lot shorter. He probably takes something along the lines of 3/90 with an opt out after year 1.

Strider doesn't get that contact right now. Probably gets similar AAV, but it would be 1 year with a team or mutual option.

Murphy likewise would not get that contract with his injury. He's get something like the Kim contract. 1 year around 15 million with a 2nd year player option around the same amount.

Everyone else either matches their current contract or massively exceeds it.

I've said this a few times, but I completely agree. If Lopez is moved to full-time relief work, we've essentially added the best arm available not named Diaz to our bullpen. Suddenly, Iggy, Lopez, Lee is a really nice top three with Jimenez potentially returning. But yeah, I'd really like to add Robert Suarez or Keller.

Try to trade for Suarez from the Padres and we are in business. Holmes is a big piece out there for the bullpen too

Robert Suarez is a free agent. With no QO attached. 😁

I honestly think Holmes finds his way back into the rotation. I prefer him in the bullpen because the splits show he's clearly elite the first time or two through the order before turning into a pumpkin. Really, add both to the bullpen and it's in great shape.

I find it unlikely Holmes is in the rotation, unless there a multiple injuries. He needs to be in the pen where, ideally, it's easier to manage the mileage on his arm.

You could say the same about Lopez, but both have been mentioned by the Braves and AA as likely rotation options for now.

Right now we have 6 starters for 5 spots. If we sign/trade for a SP (which AA himself says he wants to do), that is 7 starters for 5 spots. The numbers just aren't in Holmes favor to land in the rotation without multiple injuries.

I'm with you. I much prefer him to be in the bullpen. I want he and Lopez in the bullpen, honestly.

I think the Braves would lean to Lopez as a starter over Holmes. I think the wild card is if they keep Elder or try to trade him. Not having any options doesn't fit the team's needs anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if they trade him for anther pitcher of his caliber with another option year or two.

Yeah Holmes I'm afraid is gonna be TJ bound so the less mileage the better. I think AA wants both he and Lopez in the bullpen but can swing it as of now like he's in the rotation to not look desperate kinda like with Dubon.
