haven't thought about Alcantra since last offseason.. he was high on my list of wants then.. need to see how his season ended and who he is even with now.. I thought I remember him being traded last deadline.. but could be mis-remembering.

I don't know that Sandy Alcantara has ever really been an elite SP, even before the injury. 2022 was amazing, but a bit lucky. He's been a mid 3 FIP ERA pitcher (or worse) every other season.
If he is cheap enough, I'll surely take him. But we shouldn't be trading anyone of real value for him.

He always seemed like a good pitching coach away from being elite... a quick look at his savant data tells me that he has a couple of good pitches and a really horrible curve that he should not be using 500+ times... so again.. he might be a good pitching coach away from being elite.. That said, I agree that you... right now he is making too much for what his production is currently at.. he should be free almost at this point.
seems like he could just use the FA/sinker/change and be really good.. throw in the occasional below average slider and see how that plays.

If AA was going to go all-in on Diaz for five years, it makes me wonder if he just finishes the offseason and makes a big splash for Valdez, Suarez or King. If he legitimately doesn't care and wants a TOR arm, I can see it.
That said, I'm way happier with Saurez, Iggy and the Drake pick.

nah, that is me.. nothing exciting.. my adult son just got his first real job and my wife told me that his job already sounds more exciting than mine does. My oldest daughter says I am Chandler on Friends because no one in my house really knows what I do.. when friends ask them, they say I work at a bank.. so I am sure their friends prob think I am a teller or something.

I worked for the us treasury for 17 years. I recently left so I’m looking for something else. I still do my college sports photography on the side, but that don’t pay the bills

I really really don't want to lose that pick for what's left on the SP market. I feel like they need to change that rule from '2nd pick' to '2nd round pick'. If it was our 2nd round pick I wouldn't be as concerned.

Degrom is toast or darn near close to it. He’s 37 with arm issues.. do we really need that, especially with that contract

not realistic unless Texas eats a lot of money.. his salary would bump the team over the last Tax threshold and start impacting the draft picks. I don't see that happening.

This is where I’m at. The Braves don’t lack for capable top end starting pitching. They lack the probability of that high end starting pitching being available at the end of the season.

If we didn't already have an entire staff with injury concerns, I would be all over DeGrom. But that's too much risk that leaves you without much flexibility in the event he gets hurt or sucks.
Based off the deals and rumors so far, AA seems unwilling to tie up a lot of extra money into future seasons. I assume he doesn't want to run into another scenario like last season. I would assume whatever SP we are looking at won't be a FA SP or trade target that will require 5 years or more and 25+ million per year.

Yeah that's why Peralta and Ryan make so much sense. Ryan would cost more to acquire and you'd get an extra year out of him. Peralta makes a ton of sense for us if he's really available.

I think the roster is pretty set. Looking at the early season schedule I think they run a 6 man rotation for the first 2 weeks. Maybe even until the Dodgers series in May. #5 will be Holmes and 6 will be Wentz or Elder with the other being long reliever out of the pen. Waldrep starts at AAA as a sort of extended Spring training. He notoriously struggles with mechanics early in the season so this may be for the best. I think JR Ritchie will get a chance to compete in ST as well for rotation spot but for obvious reasons wont win. We could see him by June. Fuentes has shoulder issues so not counting on anything from him. I am slightly worried about everything but defense but I think the team is well rounded. I would still like another high end reliever like Keller because I dont trust Jiminez's health and an upgrade from Wisely/White but it is what it is. Even without adding a starter I feel the pen and offense will be better which means we can still compete with subpar SP for a while. I am very excited about what could be a very improved defense for key situations. An Outfield of Yas/MH/White would be such an upgrade. Dubon/Kim in the middle infield. Potentially with Nacho at 3B. Make the pitchers job easier.
