Black Immigrants

if you want to peddle resentment about handouts you should aim your ire at groups who have not been able to take advantage of the opportunities this country offers in spite of being here for centuries: native-born blacks, whites from Appalachia

If you want me to agree with your assessment and the papers assessment that non-American blacks are harder working and less violent I'd agree 100%. Well, as long as they aren't Muslim of course.....

It still doesn't change the fact that the last 50 years the West decides to screw their native populations so all these 'gains [some would say ballers]' are just a byproduct of policy and not underlying 'greatness'.

I think native born whites/blacks being left behind is a product of immigration more than anything else. This shitstorm of a policy has no skin color bias as to who it fucks over from the 'non-educated' population.

i don't know if you have noticed but the native-born unemployment rate is up over the past year...it's not immigrants who are causing poorly educated and unproductive people to be having economic difficulties.

Oh - so a massive increase in the supply of unskilled labor without a change in demand doesn't do anything? Cool.....

But lets move past just jobs. How about services / housing? That isn't impacted by a massive influx of illegals?

Lets see where wages/rent/housing costs go as Trump and team continue to expel the third world barbarians. Loving the trendline on rent rates. Great sign of things to come.

now that immigration has turned negative why has the unemployment rate for native-born workers been rising...at the end of the day if you aren't a productive worker you either won't be hired or won't be paid very well...that's a simple reality
 
I wonder how native born uneducated whites/blacks are going to feel when their food is cheaper / healthcare is cheaper / housing is cheaper all the time their kids get more attention in schools not having to deal with five different languages in class.

Entry level coding jobs have been eliminated. Not all that difficult to understand what is happening currently in the workforce.

But what I do know is foreign population is decreasing and jobs gains are all going to Americans.

Wonderful things are happening that are setting the stage for a great revival.

Agreed. As you said, they come from lesser countries and are focusing on opportunity instead of grievance. That likely plays a part in their voting pattern being different than native born blacks as well.

The plight of Appalachian whites has a lot of causes. Exploitation by Yankeedom, stereotypes, race based instead of class based enrollment and hiring quotas, globalization, drugs, and culture. They can do something about one of those. Unfortunately they’ll likely have to do it elsewhere as Yankees and West coast natives are pricing the natives out of the area.

I think there are similarities (and some differences) between the plight of old stock blacks in this country and of poor whites in Appalachia. Some of it is bad luck (deindustrialization after the great migration north for jobs and opportunities, and the vicissitudes of extractive industries like coal). But the bad luck interacts with culture in those two cases in particularly pernicious ways. If there were easy solutions we would have found them. But I don't think throwing up our hands and saying things will sort themselves out is a good option either.

I have lunch with two colleagues from Appalachia (one from eastern Kentucky and one from southwestern Virginia) every Tuesday during the school year. Often we talk about accents. Sometimes in a joking way. But sometimes in a serious way. Things like how people speak leading to stereotyping that can be difficult to overcome. Our lunch group is mostly people with strange accents. They think I don't have an accent, which I find amusing.

In my small life experience I have on this subject between college and my work experience, educated African immigrants tend be very religious and almost entirely Christian. So it should not be too odd that they vote Republican at high rates.

Yes. I would add conservative (in a non-political way) in their Christian beliefs. Same for Haitians, Jamaicans, Dominicans.
 
If onoy tax payers voted, the dems would never win an election.

That that is and of itself isn't a red flag to the policy preferences, I dont know what is.
