2025-2026 offseason thread

You should come back and hammer moving Olson now
Actually that isn't the worst idea in the world. If they don't do something about the SP, and I'm not sure they can at this point, then they aren't serious about truly winning. Moving the (eventual and almost certainly inevitable) down years of Olson's contract wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, depending of course on the return...........

Yes, let's get rid of him

The owners may as well walk out onto the interstate and set themselves on fire if they bang a whole season. The sport will never recover.
They’ve said that about every work stoppage since 1970. Yet here we are still paying to watch grown men play a game for a 20 mill a year. It will be here long after we’re gone

There has never been an entire season canceled.
Not exactly but they did cancel a lot of the season including the World Series in the 94 and the start of the 95, season. They were arguing over…shockingly a salary cap and revenue sharing. Sounds familiar. Only reason that one ended was an injunction issued by a federal judge. Which is basically an entire season. All we heard was how baseball was finished and fans would never come back. Uh huh sure

Advocating for selling quality players at the end of a contention window at least makes more sense than selling them at the beginning of the window. Still stupid, but the bar was very low.

Whoever thought they could hold the other side hostage by threatening to kill the rest of the season.

Many didn’t. It’s pretty well understood what damage that did to the sport’s overall popularity and standing in the pecking order of major professional sports. I think the end of 94 and start of 95 equaled a little more than a third of a season. The sport won’t die because there are enough diehards, but it will be in way worse shape. Look no further than how difficult it is now for many teams to get their games on tv in front of people consistently
