It is the lower cost of living. It has obvious appeal to older people and lower income people. What is it about these red states that are so appealing to citizens of blue states that the blue states arent offering?
Both supply and demand are at work. Overly restrictive building policies in places like California. And strong demand to live in places with opportunity and good services and amenities. Why is the cost of living lower? Blue states cant implement policies to lower cost of living? Florida is doing more with half the tax revenue of NY, and they are stuck with a bunch of geezers!
Demand? But demand has been decreasing with migration outflow. Has cost of living declined along with that demand increase? Both supply and demand are at work. It is true red states do more with lower taxes. Thats in large part because federal fiscal transfers help support their safety net and public goods. Low taxes is a brand made possible by generous transfers from blue state taxpayers. No flowers or thank you notes expected.
Migration outflow reflects the intersection of supply and demand. Moreover, there are distinct demand curves for different demographic groups. Retirees versus young college graduates for example. That's why we see young ambitious people headed to Washington state at the same time as older groups go to Tennessee, a state that is a net loser of young college graduates in spite of Nashville being able to attract them.Demand? But demand has been decreasing with migration outflow. Has cost of living declined along with that demand increase?
The house price index for California is up 52% during the Newsom governorship. The unprecedented loss of demand (people) during Gavins tenure hasnt resulted in reduction in COL?
That doesnt make any sense
Not just housing. When you literally can’t rebuild in California, yeah the prices of the ones left are gonna go up.
What a joke
Again read the bill. You won't but read the bill. Read the actual summary of the bill instead of zerohedge's article. How is Texas monitoring my car travel today?
The proposal, Senate Bill S.2246, doesn’t slap a hard cap on your daily commute… yet – but it orders the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) to set binding goals for reducing statewide vehicle miles traveled (VMT). It also creates a new government council tasked with pushing people onto public transit whether they like it or not.
This is obvious where this goes next.
Safe to assume you would support it when it does?
He might prefer being in a state that is a recipient as opposed to a donor in the fiscal transfer system. That seems more in line with his parasitic style.
Now that he’s free, he’d make a great California governor…
