Maybe an unpopular opinion, but staffers should absolutely, positively not be shielded from criticism or have some expectation of anonymity. If you’re crafting the public policy on behalf of elected officials, you’re a politician. Trump is, as always, a bag of dicks, but we needn’t clutch our pearls because the person he’s being a dick to this time was hired instead of elected.

Illegally. This isn’t a pro-IRS or government position, it’s a “the President should not be allowed to unilaterally direct the government to pay him billions by bypassing the courts through a rushed settlement” position. One that I wouldn’t have ever imagined we’d need to take.
Very little if the person in charge of the IRS didn’t pursue it, and presumably not tens of millions of dollars, which is a fraction of what he’s asking for. If he “settles” for say $5 million, is that saving the taxpayer?
