His lackluster stuff got figured out. Unless he magically gains better stuff or pinpoint control, he shouldn’t start a playoff game.

Taijuan Walker had 2.5 WAR last year and didn’t see a playoff inning. We saw exactly why Elder wasn’t good enough. I don’t care about the regular season.

No ****. That doesn’t mean you don’t try and build the best team possible. There were/are a lot of options to strengthen a glaring weakness, not only for this season but for next. Not addressing it at all would be a mistake.

Morton is over 40. Pretending he’s not a perpetual injury risk is just naive.

And has been stated multiple times, in a pivotal game 3, Bryce Elder was on the mound. I’d rather not rely on hoping 85 year old Morton is healthy (and effective, which is bound to end sooner rather than later).

And you think one of the only three reliable SPs you have are unlikely to not be fully healthy? I would say it’s pretty likely that a 40+ year old Morton isn’t fully healthy come playoff time. Which puts you basically back in the same position as this past season.

I don’t think it’s particularly unlikely that a pitcher isn’t fully healthy come playoff time. Lugo for 3/$45 would’ve made me feel a lot better about the options if that’s the case. I do still hope AA has something else planned for the rotation. I think it’s still a pretty big need.
