I'm sure any prison really sucks, but Federal prison supposedly isn't as rough as state prison. At least it wasn't years ago (1970s) when an acquaintence of mine was sentenced to two years for mail fraud. He told me it was very oppressive (they checked all your incoming mail and prisoners were...

KLaws top 5 Braves Prospect Rankings

It was nice to see some John Gil love. Now let's hope they don't rush him too much. The international scouting staff seems to hit on more of the guys who signed smaller bonuses (Gil, Fuentes, Lara) than with some of the higher-bonus guys (Tavarez, Benitez, Glod). I have hope for the premier...

I find it hard to believe Alonso didn't take that deal. 30-year-old one-dimension guy. Maybe he ages well, but the odds are against it.

Cease has a couple of great years and a couple of meh years. Lopez is more consistent. That led to my ceiliing comment.

I think the difference is whether the Braves could have extended Cease. Lopez is more consistent than Cease (but doesn't have Cease's ceiling) but the team would have Lopez until the 2027 season. Without an extension, Cease is likely a rental.

    Looking towards 2025

The headline to the article How the Braves Can Best Utilize Nick Allen has an easy response: In Gwinnett.

I think the difference in the Tucker trade is that Houston received a legitimate major league position player in that deal. I don't see the Braves have anyone comparable to that, so it's little wonder that Preller would ask for guys in our top-tier of prospects, especially for King. I'm not...

I'm curious what the Padres want. I'm a little surprised they insisted on Baldwin given they have Salas moving quickly up their minor league chain, but good hitters are scarce and so I get the interest in Baldwin from that angle. They are set for the immediate future in the IF and De Vries...

Prospect rankings are always a bit suspect, but the Cubs have 7 on MLB's Top 100 and six have a major league ETA of 2025 (4 on Law's Top 100 and 2 just outside the Top 100). They can throw a lot of prospect capital at the Padres if they so choose. Braves might have a couple of guys better to...

Braves have rushed some guys through the system. It has worked with some guys (Strider and, to some extent, Harris) and hasn't worked (at least to this point) with other guys (Smith-Shawver and Waldrep). I think it's too early for the jury to finish deliberations on the guys who came up before...

With you on the overall logic, but Alvarez is no way (at least at this juncture) as good a player as Oritz.

With the signing of Profar, Kelenic officially becomes the 4th OF (at least when Acuna returns). I thought that Anthopoulos might try to package him with a couple of our pitching prospects (or maybe Alvarez) to upgrade LF or SS through the trade route.

Scherzer is an absolute warrior and if he has anything left in the tank, I'd be all for signing him to a reasonable deal. Like you say, he'd be a pretty good role model for younger guys on the pitching staff. I've always loved watching him pitch.

Agree that Montgomery is likely to move somewhere and the cost would be next to nothing (depending on salary split between the teams). Of course, Montgomery really stunk last season and he's 32 years old. He can eat innings when he's healthy but he may be on the severe downside of this career.

They played a lot of mix-and-match last season especially when Phillips had a rough stretch. Phillips still had the most saves (18), but Hudson had 10 and 11 other guys had at least one save (Vesla had 6). I see the same pattern emerging. I think it can be argued that Yates, Treinen, Scott...

True, but part of me still thinks he wants to empty out a lot of the farm by trading them for established major league players. Braves may have the pieces to pull either or both of Lopez and Correa from the Twins. Pohlads are finally trying to sell the team and often times to accomplish that...
