GDT 9/5/25: Braves vs Mariners - Ronald Acuna’s Day Off

Kim and Profar are buddies, and they’ve both worn Braves jackets since they were 9. AA knew this so there was no risk picking up Kim.

    2025 Around The League Thread

As long as I never have to hear Chip announce another Braves game I don't care how terrible any of his sons are. Dude is an insufferable dinosaur enabler who turns every single broadcast into a rant about how terrible baseball is nowadays.

GDT 9/3/25 Braves @ Cubs - ROY Contenders Battle

Everyone saying his wrist must be an issue look to have been spot on.

GDT 9/3/25 Braves @ Cubs - ROY Contenders Battle

It didn’t occur to me every manager isn’t as stupid as snit, so I couldn’t imagine Horton not going for the no no.

GDT 9/3/25 Braves @ Cubs - ROY Contenders Battle

The Braves are about to hand this guy his signature moment to win RoY.

    Grading Waldrep's Stuff

Yes, as usual your attempt at arguing for no real season leads to you being wrong. Nobody has ever said it was a shitty pitch. The split is not a remarkable pitch. When it is paired with the cutter and the sinker and the breaking ball the results have been impressive. If that’s too nuanced...

    Grading Waldrep's Stuff

A pitch that is primarily thrown with 2 strikes will have better results than a pitch thrown early in the count, or when behind in the count. The data very clearly shows how much the split moves compared to other splits thrown by other MLB pitchers. That data is objective and irrefutable, and...

GDT 9/3/25 Braves @ Cubs - ROY Contenders Battle

It's weird, but the addition of Kim at SS and Fraley for the bench plus the emergence of Waldrep actually has me excited already for 2026. So I watch the games with this odd desire for them to lose, but for guys like Kim, Waldrep and Munoz to do well.

GDT 9-2: Braves at Cubs; No DRAKE

Needless to say Munoz is much more interesting than Harris.

GDT 9-2: Braves at Cubs; No DRAKE

MLB hitters didn’t seem that confused. Couple rockets for outs.

GDT 9-2: Braves at Cubs; No DRAKE

Harris has an odd arm action from a low slot. Maybe that has something to do with his early success.

GDT 9-2: Braves at Cubs; No DRAKE

The sinker is getting 17-19” of arm side movement, so let’s call it 18”. That would rank in the top 25 out of 423 MLB sinkers, and it’s in the upper 90s. It may be a special pitch.

GDT 9-2: Braves at Cubs; No DRAKE

That Munoz fastball might be interesting.

GDT 9-2: Braves at Cubs; No DRAKE

If Fraley is the replacement for Ozuna's bat AA failed. Period. He is an excellent bench option though.

Snit can get his 50th year in a position other than MLB manager.

GDT 9-2: Braves at Cubs; No DRAKE

I'm not sure why they would spend on a RHH CFer when they've never spent on a RHH OFer and Eli White exists. Ozuna has a real chance at being back. He is probably something like Plan D.

GDT 9-2: Braves at Cubs; No DRAKE

The 3D chess move is to play Kim every single day, run him into the ground, and get him injured, which will force him to take his option. That's literally the only thing Twit is competent at doing, so this should work out well.

Hayden Harris Time! And a couple of other moves.

He leaves 96% of his runners on base, which is crazy. He has a FB/HR rate of 3.4% which is also crazy. He allows a BABIP of .220, again crazy. Dude is striking out like 14 per 9, so something real is happening. Can't wait to see him.

Hayden Harris Time! And a couple of other moves.

Statcast says Harris throws a 4 seamer 70% of the time, and it's 91.5 mph with 13" of rise (almost 3" less than MLB average). I stopped looking at his stuff. I'm sure we will get to hear Glavine talk nonstop about some nonsense when he's pitching. I'll have to mute it.

NL Rookie of the Year Watch

The only player with a QO attached even worth considering will be Tucker. While we all love to speculate about him being a possibility, he almost certainly isn't. So assuming Tucker isn't an option, I would not be in favor of signing anyone with a QO attached.
