    2025 Around The League Thread

I could get on board with a cheap Baldwin extension and a short Sale extension. Good BP arms and a MOR SP or better are both given.

    GDT 8-25: Striding in Miami

So this is mostly correct, and just a little bit intentionally misleading. Strider averaged 17.5" of rise last night, which this guy conveniently rounded up to 18 to make it look better, even after reporting all other numbers to the tenths decimal point to make things look more accurate (the...

    2025 Around The League Thread

The Braves core is aging just like every core ages. The issue is all the extensions AA signed (and were lauded by nearly everyone at the time) means there is zero flexibility to maneuver around that aging core. This is the risk I mentioned way back when everyone was so busy patting each other on...

    GDT 8-25: Striding in Miami

Strider’s arm angle is 4-5 degrees lower than it was in 2022/2023, which is likely why he isn’t getting the same rise on the ball. Fixing arm angle seems like a reasonably easy adjustment to make.

    GDT 8-25: Striding in Miami

Strider at 96, 95, and then the slider gets ripped

Does this guy throw his change harder than striders brace heater?

GDT 8/22/25: Braves vs Mets - Getting That Elite Extension

Acuna has been a negative defender since coming back from his first knee surgery. It’s the main reason the Braves need to sign a legit OFer so he can be the primary DH.

I can’t wait for ABS just so we can stop talking about umps. They seem to get worse every year.

GDT 8/20/25 - Braves vs White Sox - Getting More Waldrep Data

I chalked the split effectiveness up to sequencing with other superior pitches. Stop being intentionally naive. Folks are taking their victory laps right now. I’m happy for them.

GDT 8/20/25 - Braves vs White Sox - Getting More Waldrep Data

Well, I just quoted one. He was quoting another one. I’m sure you’re smart enough to pick out the other silly passive aggressive ones.

GDT 8/20/25 - Braves vs White Sox - Getting More Waldrep Data

Strider just explained why his slider is no longer effective without the fastball being elite. He’s literally talking about the importance of sequencing, and describing how an elite pitch (his old fastball) makes another lesser pitch (his slider) more effective. But yeah, I’m sure you watching...

Then it sounds like that trust is what makes chipper valuable. Either way, he needs to be on the payroll and the other 3 guys can kick rocks. I still can’t believe the Braves employ 3 adults as hitting coaches.

GDT 8/20/25 - Braves vs White Sox - Getting More Waldrep Data

In a world where we’ve seen guys like Medlen, Ian Anderson and Elder have short term success, I find it hilarious folks are so willing to jump the gun saying “I told you so” about Waldrep. In all those cases I showed why long term success was unlikely for those pitchers based solely on the...

GDT 8/20/25 - Braves vs White Sox - Getting More Waldrep Data

Yeah the hype pendulum on Waldrep is now swinging in the opposite direction. Literally everything Waldrep does well Schwelly does better. Waldrep’s control over the 3 new pitches (a crazy thing to type out) have him on the path to being an impact pitcher. Schwelly is so good at everything he’s...

GDT 8/20/25 - Braves vs White Sox - Getting More Waldrep Data

And who has strider as the worst pitcher in an injury depleted rotation made up of Waldrep and a bunch of AAAA castoffs?

GDT 8/20/25 - Braves vs White Sox - Getting More Waldrep Data

Waldrep for sure. Harris has a recent history of being a star. Waldrep learned 3 new quality pitches and improved his command dramatically. That’s incredibly impressive. If he continues his march towards being an impact starter the possibility of the window not slamming shut exists...

GDT 8/20/25 - Braves vs White Sox - Getting More Waldrep Data

Waldrep’s control clicking with those new pitches long term would be huge.

You know, the less I hear about Chipper being around the hitters, the worse the offense seems to be. Like last year...I don't remember seeing anything like Chipper working with Riley, or anyone else. How much of the offensive success has been due to Chipper coaching the hitters? And why can't...
